Focus verse:
The Jews were angry with Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath
I want to pick up this idea of Sabbath.
The Sabbath is the weekly Jewish day of rest.
It is from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset.
No work was to be done on that day.
In the new covenant, we are no longer requires to observe the Sabbath.
Nonetheless, having a weekly day of rest is still a great principle to incorporate into our lives.
However, it is one thing to have physical rest; it is another to have true rest i.e. rest for our souls, otherwise known as God’s peace.
That’s what I want to focus on today - finding rest for your soul...
How can we find rest for our souls in our day to day life?
1.
Through knowing who your God is
2. Through not focusing on the success of the wicked
Their success will come to an end
e.g.
might be at work place!
3. Through remembering the goodness of God towards you
4. Through being in God's presence
5. Through following God's guidance
6.
Through knowing that you have peace with God
7. Through loving God’s word
Note, “learn from Me”.
Spending time in the Word is one way we spend time with God.
8. Through being humble
9. Through righteousness
On the other hand...
It’s important that if you sin, you confess it to God and repent.
There is no rest for a guilty conscience!
10.
Through correct thinking
Notice the result - and the God of peace will be with you!
And finally...
11.
Through prayer
