Jesus is the Son of God
--------------------------------
Over and over Jesus called God His Father
--------------------------------
Jesus who has the right to call God “Father” instructed us to do the same.
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray Jesus said,
--------------------------------
But yet God is not everyone’s Father.
--------------------------------
So how do you become a child of God?
--------------------------------
How is this possible?
God decided to adopt us as His sons and daughters.
--------------------------------
That adoption is made possible through the Spirit
--------------------------------
So if we who have placed saving faith in Jesus Christ have been adopted as God’s children, then how should we act as His children?
Well verses 12-14 just told us
--------------------------------
We are not just an ordinary family.
We are a missionary family.
And our family business is making Disciples.
Jesus said I am sending you
--------------------------------
Where is He sending us and what are we supposed to do when we get there?
--------------------------------
Why is it so important that we make disciples of Jesus?
And Jesus said
--------------------------------
You see that we are all sinners and therefore children of the devil and not of God, but God wants us to be His children so He provided forgiveness for our sins through Jesus Christ.
And there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.
No one gets to the Father except through Jesus, and we must be born again by the Spirit of God through Faith in Jesus.
So why is it so important that we make disciples?
Because That is the only way for people to be saved and adopted into the family of God for eternity?
Why should we not be content with just professions of faith?
Because Jesus talks about counting the cost when deciding to follow Him so that you will not start following Him and then give up.
And you passages like 1 Corinthians 15 that talks about how you are saved by the gospel message if you hold to it unless you believed it for no purpose
And Jesus talks about perseverance as those who will be saved will persevere through trials and not turn their back on God or the gospel while on this earth.
--------------------------------
But the Holy Spirit will help you to persevere
--------------------------------
So why is it so important that people not just come make a one time profession but that we help them grow into mature disciples who will not give up?
Because God said through the author of Hebrews
--------------------------------
We all have to count the cost and decide to worship God and serve Him as our God or if we don’t really want Him to be our God and we want to be our own god.
