Jesus is the Son of God

Matthew 3:17 CSB
17 And a voice from heaven said: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.”
Luke 1:32 CSB
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
Acts 13:33 CSB
33 God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm: You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
Hebrews 1:5 CSB
5 For to which of the angels did he ever say, You are my Son; today I have become your Father, or again, I will be his Father, and he will be my Son?
Mark 1:1 CSB
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Over and over Jesus called God His Father
John 14:6 CSB
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 8:49 CSB
49 “I do not have a demon,” Jesus answered. “On the contrary, I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
John 11:41 CSB
41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you heard me.
John 5:17 CSB
17 Jesus responded to them, “My Father is still working, and I am working also.”
John 17:1 CSB
1 Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you,
John 8:54 CSB
54 “If I glorify myself,” Jesus answered, “my glory is nothing. My Father—about whom you say, ‘He is our God’—he is the one who glorifies me.
Jesus who has the right to call God “Father” instructed us to do the same. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray Jesus said,
Matthew 6:9 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy.
But yet God is not everyone’s Father.
John 8:42–47 CSB
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and I am here. For I didn’t come on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why don’t you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Who among you can convict me of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 The one who is from God listens to God’s words. This is why you don’t listen, because you are not from God.”
So how do you become a child of God?
John 1:12–13 CSB
12 But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, 13 who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.
John 12:36 CSB
36 While you have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light.” Jesus said this, then went away and hid from them.
Romans 9:8 CSB
8 That is, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but the children of the promise are considered to be the offspring.
Galatians 3:26 CSB
26 for through faith you are all sons of God in Christ Jesus.
1 John 5:1 CSB
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him.
How is this possible? God decided to adopt us as His sons and daughters.
Ephesians 1:5 CSB
5 He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Romans 8:23 CSB
23 Not only that, but we ourselves who have the Spirit as the firstfruits—we also groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
Galatians 4:4–5 CSB
4 When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
That adoption is made possible through the Spirit
Galatians 4:6 CSB
6 And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”
Romans 8:12–17 CSB
12 So then, brothers and sisters, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh, 13 because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. 15 You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, 17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
So if we who have placed saving faith in Jesus Christ have been adopted as God’s children, then how should we act as His children? Well verses 12-14 just told us
Romans 8:12–14 CSB
12 So then, brothers and sisters, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh, 13 because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons.
Ephesians 5:1 CSB
1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,
Philippians 2:15 CSB
15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world,
1 John 2:28–3:10 CSB
28 So now, little children, remain in him so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him. 1 See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children—and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he appears, we will be like him because we will see him as he is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure. 4 Everyone who commits sin practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in him. 6 Everyone who remains in him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen him or known him. 7 Children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works. 9 Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God. 10 This is how God’s children and the devil’s children become obvious. Whoever does not do what is right is not of God, especially the one who does not love his brother or sister.
We are not just an ordinary family. We are a missionary family. And our family business is making Disciples. Jesus said I am sending you
John 20:21 CSB
21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”
Where is He sending us and what are we supposed to do when we get there?
Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Why is it so important that we make disciples of Jesus?
Romans 3:23 CSB
23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 CSB
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Acts 4:11–12 CSB
11 This Jesus is the stone rejected by you builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.”
John 14:6 CSB
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
And Jesus said
John 3:3 CSB
3 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:16–18 CSB
16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
You see that we are all sinners and therefore children of the devil and not of God, but God wants us to be His children so He provided forgiveness for our sins through Jesus Christ. And there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved. No one gets to the Father except through Jesus, and we must be born again by the Spirit of God through Faith in Jesus. So why is it so important that we make disciples? Because That is the only way for people to be saved and adopted into the family of God for eternity? Why should we not be content with just professions of faith? Because Jesus talks about counting the cost when deciding to follow Him so that you will not start following Him and then give up. And you passages like 1 Corinthians 15 that talks about how you are saved by the gospel message if you hold to it unless you believed it for no purpose
1 Corinthians 15:1–2 CSB
1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
And Jesus talks about perseverance as those who will be saved will persevere through trials and not turn their back on God or the gospel while on this earth.
Matthew 24:12–13 CSB
12 Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Matthew 10:22 CSB
22 You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
John 15:4–10 CSB
4 Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples. 9 “As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
Romans 11:22 CSB
22 Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you—if you remain in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.
But the Holy Spirit will help you to persevere
1 Corinthians 1:8 CSB
8 He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 2:12 CSB
12 Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Colossians 1:21–23 CSB
21 Once you were alienated and hostile in your minds expressed in your evil actions. 22 But now he has reconciled you by his physical body through his death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before him—23 if indeed you remain grounded and steadfast in the faith and are not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard. This gospel has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and I, Paul, have become a servant of it.
So why is it so important that people not just come make a one time profession but that we help them grow into mature disciples who will not give up? Because God said through the author of Hebrews
Hebrews 10:36–38 CSB
36 For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised. 37 For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. 38 But my righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, I have no pleasure in him.
We all have to count the cost and decide to worship God and serve Him as our God or if we don’t really want Him to be our God and we want to be our own god.
