A) This sermon begins much like the sermon at Pentecost; a noteworthy miracle attracts attention of many amazed people
B) But the miracle saves no one, it simply attests to the power of God –
But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they conferred with one another, saying, “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
C) Peter expressly denies any credit for the healing, even his piety

A) God has glorified Jesus (the purpose of the miracle)
B) You disowned the Messiah and preferred to ask a murderer to be set free among them and put to death the Prince of life (choosing death over life); but God raised Him from the dead, which they all witnessed
C) Trusting in Him made this man well (that could be the faith of Peter or the sick man, Vincent says Peter’s faith, which seems more likely)
D) You acted in ignorance, as did the leaders (does not excuse their actions), but God had prophesied all of this and has fulfilled it all

A) Peter calls on them to repent (change the direction of their hearts) and return to God (repentance is necessary to come to God) to wipe away (as marking through a debt in a ledger) their sins
B) This is so the times of refreshing (only place in NT, like a cool breeze after oppressive heat) could come from God and He would send Jesus, the Messiah appointed for them (Peter’s sermon is mostly positive)
C) Heaven receives Jesus until the period of restoration (medical term for returning to full health) of all things (God heals the corruption of sin) which God has revealed through prophecy (just like all that has happened up to this point)
D) Peter quotes Moses – , – and says all the other prophets support the same message
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—
And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.
E) Peter says that they are the sons of the prophets and are the first to receive the promised blessings of Abraham – – by God sending Jesus to turn them from their wicked ways
and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”
Concl: As with his first sermon, we see Peter convicting them of sin, but also offering them hope through forgiveness. And as with the first sermon, many accepted that message – .
But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
