Introduction
Jesus made a very simple statement one time as he was talking to the religious doubters of his day.
Matthew 12:30 ESV
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
matt 12:30
Today, I want to talk to you about what it means to be anti-christ. When you here the word anti-christ, I’m sure it concours up some thoughts of the end time stories that you heard.
We will talk about some of that today as well, but I want to focus on the spirit behind the action.
Today we will discuss the spirit of anti-christ and how we can be effected by it if we are not careful.
I’m sure that most if not all of us in this room would say, “I’m not anti-christ.” but yet our actions sometimes would say otherwise.
One of the responsibilities that every parent feels is warning your kids about the dangers to come. The world we live in now is not the world I grew up in. There are more dangers, more predators, more vices than I could have ever imagined.
Our study of the book of Daniel is entitle: “In the World.” Connecting without compromising your faith.
Daniel was receiving warning signs and visions from God of both wrath and the salvation to come.
So far we the book has illustrated the superiority of God’s kingdom to any other kingdom on Earth.
There is only one God and he is sovereign and creator of all things.
In Chapter 7 & 8 we are introduced to a new character that will come on the scene.
He is the last king that will rise out of the Babylonian world system and is referred to as “the little horn,” The man of lawlessness, the son of perdition, and the beast from the sea.
He is a real person and not a world system.
He is empowered by Satan and with the false prophet forms a false trinity that will lead a rebellion and tribulation on the earth.
He could already be on the scene moving toward his ultimate reign, but my intention is not to try and guess who that is. I will leave that to others.
As we see these scriptures and prophecies play out before our eyes, don’t you think it’s import to know who’s team you are on.
Being anti-christ doesn’t mean you have to wear upside down crosses or get a goat head tattooed on your chest. Satan is slicker than that.
All you have to do to be anti-christ is just go with the flow. Let the world tell you what to do and how to live, because Satan is running the world system right now.
Let’s dive into the scriptures and get educated on the spirit of anti-christ so we will know how to be “In the World, connecting without compromising our faith.”

Understanding the time brings an urgency for God’s kingdom.

Body

Daniel’s revelation of the “time of the end.”

So Daniel is having these visions but they are not for Daniel’s day. They are for a time at the end of Gentile (worldly) kingdoms when Christ will come to rule and reign forever.
Daniel 8:17 ESV
So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.”
Daniel 8:19 ESV
He said, “Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for it refers to the appointed time of the end.

We are living in the last hour.

1 John 2:18 ESV
Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.
1 John 2:18
For the last 2600 years there has been no king in Israel.
The earth has been run by the kings of this world, the Gentiles.

Christians must learn how to function in a world orchestrated by the spirit of antichrist.

Daniel 8:23–24 ESV
23 And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. 24 His power shall be great—but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints.
Daniel 8:23

Christians must learn how to function in a world orchestrated by the spirit of antichrist.

Ephesians 2:1–3 ESV
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Eph 2:
This false spirit is all around us.
It’s in the economy.
It’s in the movies we watch and the music we listen to.
It influences the way companies are run.
It’s in our schools.
It’s in our homes through the internet, social media, pornography.
This is the major theme of Daniel life and our study. To be in a world that is compromised by the spirit of antichrist and not compromise ourselves along with it.
We have been given the task of building a kingdom inside a kingdom.

This kingdom has one final king.

It is in these last days that the Gentile rule has one final crescendo. One final climax in the form of one final king.
Daniel 8:25 ESV
25 By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.
Daniel 8:23–25 ESV
23 And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. 24 His power shall be great—but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints. 25 By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.

Understanding the spirit of the time produces an allegiance to the right kingdom.

The timeline of the last hour. (display timeline graphic)

The resurrection of Christ was the first defeat of the Gentile kingdom and brought us into the “Age of Grace.”
Christ is now building his kingdom through His bride the church.
Those that believe and receive Jesus as Lord and King will rule and reign with him in the new kingdom.
The revealing of the Antichrist. The world recognizes their king and receives him as their god.
The rapture of the Church. At the appointed time King Jesus will come in the clouds and remove his people from this kingdom.
The wrath of God. God brings 7 years of tribulation to judge the world of sin and prepares Israel to receive Christ as their King.
The Return of Christ. After the 7 years Christ will return to the earth with his subjects to rule and reign on the Earth for 1000 years.
We have further revelation from Paul in about the AntiChrist.
2 Thessalonians 2:1–2 ESV
1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
2 Thes 2:1

The traits of Antichrist.

The traits of Antichrist.

A man of sin and lawlessness
2 Thessalonians 2:3 ESV
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
Becomes an object of worship
2 Thessalonians 2:4 ESV
4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
2 Thess 2:
Empowered by Satan
2 Thessalonians 2:9 ESV
9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,
Rev 13
A Master of deception and lies
2 Thessalonians 2:10 ESV
10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
A false King
Revelation 13:1–7 ESV
1 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2 And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?” 5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,

4 things to combat the spirit of antichrist.

Walk in righteousness not lawlessness.

1 John 3:4–6 ESV
4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3
1 John 3:7–8 ESV
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:

Test the spirits

1 John 4:1 ESV
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
The Spirit of God: confesses that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh.
1 John 4:2 ESV
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
1 John
The spirit of antichrist: denies that Jesus is God in the flesh.
1 John 4:3 ESV
3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

Be empowered by the Holy Spirit

The children of God are led by His Spirit.
2 Timothy 1:7 ESV
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Romans 8:14 ESV
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Walk in the Spirit
Galatians 5:16–17 ESV
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

Choose the true King

Those that reject Christ will be domed with the Antichrist.
They will worship the Antichrist as God.
2 Thess 2:4
2 Thessalonians 2:4 ESV
4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
2 Thessalonians 2:11–12 ESV
11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
If you reject the true king, God will force you to believe the false King.
2 Thess 2:
2 Thessalonians 2:11–12 ESV
11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thess 2:
Those you receive Christ walk in victory over the Antichrist.
Daniel 8:25 ESV
25 By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.
Dan
2 Thessalonians 2:8 ESV
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.
2 Thess
1 John 4:4 ESV
4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
