The Word of God Shall Be On Your Heart!
The Word of God should be on our heart.
Heart -heart (internal feature) n. — the locus of a person’s thoughts (mind), volition, emotions, and knowledge of right from wrong (conscience) understood as the heart.
Things that are on our hearts are the things that we cherish the most.
Our families, our friends, our health, our jobs, in the south our football teams.
Those things that we invest time and resources on.
These are the things that we will make time for even when we don’t have time.
These are the things that we will invest resources into even if it means going into debt to care for.
Things that are on our hearts are what we are passionate about.
Things that are on our heart are things we enjoy.
God’s Word reveals who He is.
Psalms 1
Studying God’s Word Reveals His character.
When you know the character of God, you experience the character of God!
Numbers 23:19
Things that are on our heart are things we enjoy
God’s word should be on our hearts.
We should be willing to give the time necessary to study it.
We should take the time to meditate on it.
This means that you think about what you studied throughout the day.
You should begin to see the principles of the Word of God unfold before your very eyes.
When the Word of God is on your heart, you will naturally make wise choices.
God’s Word should govern your life.
The decisions you make should agree with the principles of your life.
The Word of God Is To Be Taught To Our Children and Household and Wherever We Go.
We are to teach the Bible to our children.
Our children are influenced by many different venues.
They are influenced by family, friends, church, school, social media, television, video games ect… There should be nothing more influential in our kids lives than the word of God.
As parents we should be the ones that teach them.
Unfortunately we often times leave that responsibility to the children’s minister, youth minister, or pastor.
Parents you are much more influential than we are.
Parents, We must teach our children the Word of God.
Generations after us are dependent on it.
If we don’t like the way things are in the world today, assume responsibility for it and do something about it!
When you walk by the wayside.
When the Word of God is on your heart, your conversation will be seasoned with the Word of God.
You will find ways to talk about Christ and what his word says and how you have experienced it.
Teaching God’s word is not just meant for formal settings in church.
It is to be taught as we live our daily lives.
We should study God’s Word throughout the day.
It is very important to start your day off in the Scriptures.
It gives you strength and wisdom to make it through the day.
However; you do not have to limit the study of God’s Word to once a day.
We can read it at any point in the day.
I am convicted to think how much more I would know about God’s Word if i spent more time studying it rather than watching TV.
God’s Word Should Be In Every Facet Of Our Lives.
They shall bind them on your hands, frontals of your forehead and write them on your doorposts.
But as the Israelites interpreted it literally, many writers suppose that a reference was made to a superstitious custom borrowed from the Egyptians, who wore jewels and ornamental trinkets on the forehead and arm, inscribed with certain words and sentences, as amulets to protect them from danger.
These, it has been conjectured, Moses intended to supersede by substituting sentences of the law; and so the Hebrews understood him, for they have always considered the wearing of the Tephilim, or frontlets, a permanent obligation.
The form was as follows: Four pieces of parchment, inscribed, the first with ; the second with ; the third with ; and the fourth with , were enclosed in a square case or box of tough skin, on the side of which was placed the Hebrew letter (shin), and bound round the forehead with a thong or ribbon.
When designed for the arms, those four texts were written on one slip of parchment, which, as well as the ink, was carefully prepared for the purpose.
With regard to the other usage supposed to be alluded to, the ancient Egyptians had the lintels and imposts of their doors and gates inscribed with sentences indicative of a favorable omen [WILKINSON]; and this is still the case, for in Egypt and other Mohammedan countries, the front doors of houses (in Cairo, for instance) are painted red, white, and green, bearing conspicuously inscribed upon them such sentences from the Koran, as “God is the Creator,” “God is one, and Mohammed is his prophet.”
Moses designed to turn this ancient and favorite custom to a better account and ordered that, instead of the former superstitious inscriptions, there should be written the words of God, persuading and enjoining the people to hold the laws in perpetual remembrance.
Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset, and David Brown, Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible, vol. 1 (Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997), 125.
The point Moses is trying to make is that people should not have to wonder if you love God.
Every aspect of our life should demonstrate it.
