INTRODUCTION

HAVE YOU EVER ASKED YOURSELF WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO WRITE AN EPISTLE TO A GROUP OF BELIEVERS?
HOW WOULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHO YOU ARE?
IF YOU ARE A NOTE TAKER I WANT YOU TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 1 WORD
I WANT YOU TO BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
GIVE ME 1 WORD THAT DESCRIBES WHO YOU ARE IN YOUR OWN EYES
NOW I WANT YOU TO ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION:
DOES THIS WORD HAVE VALUE ON BOTH SIDES OF DEATH
DOES THIS WORD MEAN ANYTHING ON THAT SIDE OF ETERNITY
WILL THIS WORD DEFINE
WILL THIS WORD MATTER IN HEAVEN?

LETS OPEN UP TO JUDE

JUDE
2ND TO LAST BOOK OF THE BIBLE
PRAY THAT GOD WOULD POUR OUT HIS SPIRIT
PRAY THAT WE WE WOULD LIVE INTO OUR TRUEST IDENTITY
PRAY THAT WE WOULD REALIZE THE THINGS THAT CAN IDENTIFY US AS FALSE PROPHETS.
Jude 1 NKJV
1 Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:
JUDE INTRODUCES HIMSELF IN LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL
He tells his audience who He is and what he is about
My name is Jude, and I am a volunteer slave to Jesus Christ
What he is saying here is this:
My whole life is wrapped around serving Jesus
I am willfully bound to the work that God has called me to
And to those who don’t know me yet, I am also the brother of James
THIS IS THE POSTURE FROM WHICH HE IS WRITING THIS LETTER
It is from this position that he gains his credibility from
It is from the title bondservant that Jude writes this Letter
“TO THOSE WHO ARE CALLED, SANCTIFIED BY GOD THE FATHER, PRESERVED IN JESUS CHRIST”
This is a very specific audience
Very Niche if you will
It would have been an audience that had lived through at least the first decade of the Church
Those who had been called by God
Those who had been sanctified or beloved by the Father
Who had been preserved in Jesus Christ
This is very specific, and it shows who were are called to be as we walk out this journey of Faith
These are 3 truths that we should be living into
1. WE ARE CALLED
Called to what?
Mark 6:7 NKJV
7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.
2. WE HAVE BEEN CALLED TO EXPERIENCE THE LOVE OF GOD
For what reason?
That we would know what posture to have as Bible Believing Humans
1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 3:16 NKJV
16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
3. WE NEED TO KNOW THAT WE ARE BEING PRESERVED IN CHRIST
Guarded by the Person and Work of Jesus Christ
Protected by the Promise in
Notice that Jesus is our only source of preservation
He is the only means by which we can stay saved
This is what makes Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
FROM THESE THREE TRUTHS WE CAN PREVENT OUR NATURE FROM RUNNING ITS COURSE
Jude 3–4 NKJV
3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
JUDE 3
TO THOSE WHO WERE MATURE IN THE FAITH
TO THOSE CALLED, SANCTIFIED, BELOVED, AND PRESERVED
JUDE FINDS NO REASON TO TALK ABOUT THEIR “COMMON SALVATION”
INSTEAD HE FINDS IT NECESSARY TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS
IT IS ALMOST LIKE HE IS SAYING THIS:
NOW THAT GOD HAS BEEN DOING AN INTERNAL WORK IN YOU
I NEED YOU TO RECIPROCATE THAT WITH PHYSICAL ACTION
I need you to contend for the Faith
The very faith that was established Once and for All
And delivered to all the saints
WHY MUST THE CHURCH CONTEND FOR THE FAITH?
Because within the church are people who are living into a false identity
They are a part of the church, they attend church, but their is something dangerously different about them
They are ungodly
Men who turn the grace of God into lewdness
Their actions deny the Lord God and the Lord Jesus Christ
At this point we can look at what Jude is saying and start looking around
Looking for those who we can shake our self-righteous fingers at
Or we can do the better thing, and examine ourselves
Ask yourself:
How are you living into a false identity within the four walls of church?
How are we ungodly?
How are we mishandling grace?
How are our actions preaching a subpar sermon?
THE REALITY IS THAT FROM VERSE 5 TO 15, WE SEE THE RESULT OF LIVING INTO THE TENDENCIES OF BEING HUMAN INSTEAD OF THE POTENTIAL OF LIVING LIKE JUDE LIVED
WE SEE THE MISTAKES
WE SEE THE IDOLATRY
WE SEE THE UNBELIEF
WE SEE THE POWER STRUGGLE
WE SEE THE IMMORAL BEHAVIOR
WE SEE JUDE USE THE BOOK OF ENOCH TO PROCLAIM A VERY BIBLICAL POSSIBILITY
jude 14-
Jude 14 NKJV
14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
Jude 14–15 NKJV
14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, 15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
That Jesus
WAIT A SECOND
IS JUDE QUOTING 1 ENOCH 1:9?
YES, BUT IT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT JESUS SAID IN &
Matthew 16:27 NKJV
27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
Matthew 25:31 NKJV
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
JUDE IS GIVING US A STRICT WARNING
A WARNING THAT SHOULDN’T SCARE US BUT LEAD US TO ACTION
ACTION THAT ENCOURAGES US TO LIVE INTO THOSE THREE THINGS LISTED IN VERSE 1
SEE, JUDE IS DESCRIBING TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE
THE WHO HAVE FAITH IN GOD AND THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH IN THEMSELVES.
THOSE WHO TRUST JESUS AND THOSE WHO TRUST MEN
THOSE WHO
JESUS DESCRIBES THESE TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE IN THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
JUDE IS MAKING IT EXPLICITLY CLEAR THAT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAVED AND UNSAVED HUMANITY HANGS ON WHAT OR WHO YOU ARE ROOTED IN
YOUR FOUNDATION WILL DECLARE YOUR POSTURE
Jude 20–21 NKJV
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
JESUS IS OUR FOUNDATION
HE IS THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE FROM WHICH WE BUILD
A TRIED STONE
A PRECIOUS CORNERSTONE
A SURE FOUNDATION
WHOEVER BELIEVES WILL NOT ACT HASTILY
FROM THESE TRUTHS, JUDE IS ENCOURAGING US TO BUILD OUR FAITH
FROM THESE TRUTHS
PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
OUR CHURCHES SHOULD BE FILLED WITH PEOPLE NEEDING TO BE LOVED WITH A GODLY LOVE
LOVED PEOPLE WILL LOVE PEOPLE
THIS WORLD, OUR FRIENDS, EVERYONE WE KNOW DESIRES TO BE LOVED
IF WE ARE WALKING IN LOVE
IF WE ARE CONFIDENT IN OUR BELOVED STATE
IF WE ARE DISPLAYING HOW LOVED WE ARE
MANY OF OUR FRIENDS WILL WANT TO BE LOVED HOW GOD LOVES US
BUT THE PROBLEM IS
WE DONT WALK IN LOVE
IN DOING SO WE BECOME WHAT JUDE WARNED US ABOUT
WE BECOME FALSE PROPHETS.
