Introduction

Greetings...
Over the last several Sunday nights we have been looking at the theme “Lessons In Lyrics.”
So far we have looked at...
My Faith Looks Up To Thee
In Christ Alone
Pierce My Ear
Today we will be looking at…How Great Thou Art number 19 in our song books.
If you have your song book let’s sing the first two verses.

God’s Amazing Creation

God’s power and might are clearly demonstrated.

We see it from the vastness of the universe to the minuteness of the smallest particle.
Genesis 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 33:6 ESV
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
Psalm 147:4 ESV
4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Ps 33:
“O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made. I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, They power throughout the universe displayed.”

God’s beauty and forethought are clearly demonstrated.

You can’t walk outside or look down from an airplane, or travel by boat on the sea without siting back and being amazed at the beauty of this world.
Job 12:7–10 ESV
7 “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; 8 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. 9 Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
Psalm 19:1 ESV
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
“When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brooks and feel the gentle breeze.”

Summery

This great song sets the stage for how great God is by looking at His creation and it ends up demonstrating how minuscule we are in comparison.
Why would God even consider us as more than a spec considering who He is and who we are and yet, as we will sing in just a moment we became a part of....

God’s Amazing Intervention

God sent His Son demonstrating His love.

God loves us so much it “pleased” Him to intervene knowing the cost.
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Isaiah 53:10 NKJV
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Is 53:
This is the “big picture” view knowing the end from the beginning ().

Christ offered His life demonstrating His love.

Jesus loves us so much that the “joy” of being reunited with us spiritually motivated Him to offer His life.
Hebrews 12:2 ESV
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 ESV
2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
John 17:13 ESV
13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

Summery

“And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.”
The same great God that has the power to created this vast universe is the same God that desired a real relationship with me and you again enough to do something about it.
All that was done so that “one day” we may partake of...

God’s Amazing Habitation

God’s home of heaven.

As we mentioned this morning heaven is the dwelling place of God; it is His home.
Hebrews 9:24 ESV
24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.

God’s is coming back to “take us home.”

It won’t just be angels but God the Son will come back in all His glory to bring the faithful to Him.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 ESV
16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Summery

“When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim my God, how great Thou art!”
