7 Things God Hates - Part 2

A. We continue this morning with our list of things God hates. We know God is a God of love, yet he hates certain things that cause His children pain. Some can’t imagine God hating anything.
1. They see Him as One with whom anything goes. Solomon tells us this is not true: God hates evil.
B. God loves sinners but hates sin.
1. In this text, we’re told of seven things God hates.
2. Let’s review the first three:
a. God hates pride, God hates lying, and God hates murder.
C. There are four remaining warnings.
prov 6.16-19
Proverbs 6:16–19 NKJV
16 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

God Hates a Heart That Devises Wicked Plans

1. The heart is the heart of all our problems. ()
Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV
9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
a. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
2. We should not be surprised by outward sins: they flow from wicked hearts.
a. “wicked imaginations” or “wicked plans” are literally “thoughts of iniquity”. There are evil thoughts in everyone’s hearts, but the devising, fabricating of them, thus making the heart into a devil’s workshop, is the mark of utter depravity and wickedness, and is abhorrent to God.
3. This is the reason all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. ()
4. Salvation results from a heart opening to the Savior
Romans 10:9 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:13 NKJV
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The fifth thing God hates...
Revelation 3:20 NKJV
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

God Hates Feet That Are Swift in Running to Mischief.

Proverbs 6:18 NKJV
18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil,
1. The feet hurry to carry out the wicked intentions of the heart.
2. “The feet follow where the heart has already gone.” (H. A. Ironside)
3. What an we do to keep our hearts right?
a. The answer lies in hiding God’s Word in the heart. ()
Psalm 119:9–11 NKJV
9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. 10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
b. Sin keeps us from the Bible and the Bible keeps us from sin.
4. “No cure for sin in the life is equal to the Word in the heart.” (C. H. Spurgeon) Next...

God Hates a Lying Witness

Proverbs 6:19 NKJV
19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
1. This one is different from the previous. We already heard God hates lying. This one is more specific. It is lying as to what we witness, as in court.
2. Our highest calling from God is to be a witness for Christ. ()
Acts 1:8 NKJV
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
a. Our tongues are to be used for speaking the greatest truth.
b. People everywhere need to hear the gospel message.
3. What a tragedy when we use our tongues to lie about people!
4. Let us focus on Christ’s perfection rather than the imperfections of others. Then lastly...

God Hates a Sower of Discord Among His people

Proverbs 6:19 NKJV
19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
1. God is pleased when His people are united in love. ()
Psalm 133:1 NKJV
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2. Unity was one of the reasons for the power in the early church. (; )
Acts 1:14 NKJV
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
Acts 2:1 NKJV
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
3. Dividers of the church displease their Lord and place themselves in jeopardy.
Conclusion:
A. Let’s cleanse our lives of things God hates.
1. Confession of sin brings cleansing.
2. Cleansed hearts hate all things that grieve their Lord.
B. When we love what God loves, we’ll hate what He hates.
