After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “I am thirsty.”
John 19:28
When we think of our Savior on the cross… “father forgive them...” “it is finished” “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?”
But of the sayings of Christ from the cross, perhaps nothing addresses both the humanity and deity of Christ more fully than these simple words… “I am Thirsty”
Tonight as we approach our savior’s agony on the cross and we look at this simple phrase, understand that our limited minds and understanding can’t fully grasp what is occurring. Here is God in a human body accomplishing salvation for us.
Before we fully dive into this saying from the cross, I want us to focus on what scriptures tell us about Christ being both God and Man.
The first thing I want us to focus on is simply Christ was both God and Man
In chapter 1 of this Gospel… Apostle John introduces the major theme for this book… Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Throughout the remainder of the Gospel this is demonstrated and culminates with the D/B/R of Jesus.
He begins his gospel by introducing us to this truth:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.

The Son of God became one of us...
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
