Six Components to Salvation

Pursuing

Pursuing-Purpose of the Law
Cornelius is pursuing God.
- a devote man and one who feared God: He trusted the God of Isreal and followed Jewish practices. It was obvious to all that his devotion was sincere.
God answered his prayer; Cornelius' pursuit was being fulfilled
Everyone is pursuing something and everyone is pursuing salvation, an escape from the evil in the world.
Leviticus 19:2
Leviticus 19:2 NASB95
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.
Romans 3:19-20
Romans 3:19–20 NASB95
19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
Romans 7:7-12
Romans 7:7–12 NASB95
7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died; 10 and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; 11 for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

Acknowledging

Acknowledging-Pointing to Grace
Peter also goes for a time of prayer.
He also has a vision.
The vision is of unclean and clean animals alike in a sheet.
The point and purpose of the vision is to show Peter God's power of Grace and Mercy.
John 1:16-17
John 1:16–17 NASB95
16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:23-29
Galatians 3:23–29 NASB95
23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.

Obeying

Obeying-Product of Holiness
1 Peter 1:13-16
1 Peter 1:13–16 NASB95
13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Possible concluding passage to hammer home the application of the product of Holiness
Romans 6:12-14
