Sunday, June 24th, 2018 - AM - GWTJ (Rev. 20:11-15)

We'll take your Bible and join me in Revelation chapter number 20 and Aya plan to make good on where we started last time together. So we'll pick up at the end of chapter number 20 here in Revelation. verses 11 through 15

John recording And I saw a great white throne and him that sat on it from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead small and great stand before God and the books were opened. And another book was opened, which is The Book of Life and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books according to their works. And the Sea gave up the dead which were in it and death and Hell delivered up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death and whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire. Lord I pray that you will bless the preaching of your word today that you would hide me behind Jesus that each one of us would understand that we will stand one day and give an account to you. an account to you for Every Idle Word and account to you for every deed every action every thought a Lord that is a a son Brewing thought it is a sobering thought and I pray Lord you would help us to do all we can here and now to redeem the time for the days are evil looking to that time in our Mind's Eye when unrepentant unbelievers will faced will face. You're just judgment and unfortunately suffer Eternal death as a result of not receiving Jesus as the payment for the penalty of their sins for eternity Lord. I pray that she would go out through your word that you would draw those to Jesus that need to be saved that you would set a fire in the end in your disciple that's here today. That's following you that needs to be set on fire in their soul to be able to tell about Jesus Christ in the good news of his salvation Lord. I pray that you would accomplish your purpose to bring healing and and life and do the work of the Gospel Lord set that one free today you that may be walking in bondage. I pray you would restore sight spiritually to the one who might be walking blinded by Satan and his devices Lord. I pray that you would receive the glory for all that's done as wheat. Look to you for what we need in Jesus name. I pray. Amen. Amen. So is a marvelous chapter. We've seen four different revelations in this chapter We Begin by looking at how the devil was incarcerated. If you will he was locked up in that bottomless pit for a thousand years. We also have noted in Revelation chapter 20 how Believers throughout the ages with Christ for that Thousand Years while Satan is bound. We've also encountered when Satan would be loosed after that thousand years and he would come and rise up the nations against the Lord Jesus Christ for a final revolt and we talked about the destiny of the devil. We saw Society. Spinal Anarchy and we also saw Satan's Eternal Agony. And today we come to these vs. And we know it very carefully that John ra chords for us the destiny of the unbelieving dad follow along with me here as we think about the accountability we each have before the Lord first off that we note here in verse 11. Is that John saw the Lord on his throne and I saw a great white Throne Jon records and him that set on it. If we were to read that in the literal word order, we would read something like this and I saw a throne white great. I saw Throne white break and so we call it as English speakers and rightly so a great white throne and he not only saw the throne he saw him that set on it and something happened before this one that was sitting on the throne record that the Earth and I haven't fled away. I'd like to see you try to describe that in words. That's quite the challenge but the Holy Spirit has given by inspiration through John these words that Earth and Heaven fled away from him that sat on this great white Throne. There was found no this no place for them. Because that is the old heaven in the old Earth and we are looking as we stand on the precipice of chapter 21 and chapter 22. Oh Fred, we are looking for a glorious new Heaven and new earth old things are passed away behold All Things become new and creation will be made new and so I draw your attention first to the object. That is the great white Throne. There's a qualitative nature. It is white and if we do is study of what is white and scripture white speaks of Purity, it speaks of spotlessness. It speaks of righteousness speaks of of God and his righteousness. And so this is a righteous Throne. It is a holy Throne. It is a beautifully beautiful. We actually get our English term that we call leukemia from that because when someone is battling leukemia, you'll notice they usually look very pale will because it comes from that word. We get in that language here white and so it is a a claim Throne. It is a washed thrown it is a righteous thrown that this one is sitting on so John sees the object and the quality of this object is that it is swipe. I read for you the words of Daniel chapter 7 and his prophecy and verse number 9 and Daniel saw something prophetic play. He said I be held till Thrones were cast down and the Ancient of Days did sit whose government was white as snow and a hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was like a fiery flame and his wheels as burning fire Daniel is recording for us a picture of judgment and indish the description of him that sat on the throne according to Daniel is is white as snow. We think of of not having any kin Combination white as snow and then hit the hair of his head like pure wool and the Purity that's related to the whiteness. So do you get a sense of the quality of this Throne. John saw it is one throne and there is one that is sitting on it the throne it sell the object that grass John's vision is quite and I don't know if it hurt his eyes to look at it or not. It might be something very bright. Maybe it's been very dark and and someone has shown a light towards your way before and you have a hard time seeing who's behind the light will friend. I'm here to tell you this one sitting on the throne. I don't think John had any problem knowing who that was. Do you? No, he sees not only this that this quality that is inherent in this white Throne. He he also described for us that it is great. So this gets us maybe if you want to call it a quantitative nature about this Throne the quality of it is the quantitative is great in the word is Mega it is a it is a great Throne. Now we've seen Thrones in the Book of Revelation if we go back to chapter number for and read verses 2 through 6. We encounter another Throne now, the description of that Throne is different from the description of this Throne. Let's note some of those differences and this is an original with me. I think I think Pastor Chris well done a lot of done much riding on this and so I'll defer to him a similar Throne was be held by John at the beginning of the great judgement switch precede the Millennium and harkening back to chapter 4 verse 236 significance differences. All right, let's talk about those differences between these two Thrones the first had a rainbow over it. Hey, that's a sign. We said that that word rainbow was translated from the word we get iris from and it was an emerald looking rainbow. Just beautiful to behold this first Throne had a rainbow over it. We also know that in scripture God gave the rainbow to know as a token that he would never flood the Earth again with judgements. So when we see a rainbow today, you are not what most of us think we see a rainbow You ought to think of God's mercy you ought to think of God's grace you ought to think of his goodness, and that goodness my friend. If you'll let it could lead you to repentance and you just might change your mind about God. It's so when we see a rainbow today, we ought to think about God Amen we oughta think about how good he is the remembrance that he has of his promises toward those that believe in him. This Throne on the other hand is naked. There is no rainbow over this Throne we might infer from that that there would be no mercy there would be no. Hope there would be no Grace at this drone. This is a throne of judgment. This is a throne before will meet their maker and they will give an account and they will come to be judged. The first Throne was a source of lightnings. If you go back and read John's account, there were Lightnings. They were thunderings. There were voices we might infer from that that these would speak of the warnings of God in these last storms. We had a we had quite sizable hailstones at our house and others have had damage from the hailstones that occurred recently and that happens sometimes here in the Colorado area is the largest hail. We've had our house since we've lived there though a golf ball-sized and bigger and so that was some pretty heavy hail coming down. I'll tell you this under that accompanied that if I did Have a nice warm shelter if I was out in the middle of it and I didn't have the National Weather Service to alert me that it was coming if I just all of a sudden found myself in the middle of a thunderstorm and then lo and behold I've got no shelter and it's hailing hailstones the size of golf balls down to my head that's enough for me. Thundering lightning warnings. You might hear that Thunder rumbling. And then what are you going to do while you're going to see cover but please don't see cover under trees and lightning storms. That's not the smartest place to try to seek shelter, but you need to prepare. It's a time to get ready because the rain is about to foal the hail is coming and I wish that I would have prepared a little better. I thought afterward hindsight is always 20/20 boy. I could have taken some moving blankets or something and just going out there and lay them over the vehicles. I didn't think of that until the morning after when I'm counting the divots on my car, you know, but thank the Lord no one was hurt. But you know hindsight is always 20/20 had I had I been warned a little better. I might have taken some different measures and and things and so the first throne in Revelation chapter number 4 in in 5 that description there lightning thundering voices warnings of God around this Throne Mash'Em it to you that there's nothing but silence so finality.

At the first Throne John saw the intercessions of the Holy Spirit hear. There's no longer any intercession the day of Grey's has expired. Now the day of judgment has skunk in front of that first Throne. We were given a description of a sea like glass the crystal see if you will that that glassy see some today Celestial pavement. Upon which God's people could stand here. There is no longer a platform of that nature. There is no longer a refuge from the day of Wrath and judgment. Before that first was a glassy sea around us one. There is no refuge from the day of Wrath John hears before that first thrown he hears singing he hears. Joyful exultation here. I didn't read about any songs, especially those of exultation the last song I encountered if I remember correctly was back in chapter 18. Babylon the great is fallen in that chorus began like this Alesso alas Babylon. The great is Fallen that was the song of the world. And in that same song we heard the chorus if you will love the Saints as a handle put it in his Messiah the Hallelujah Chorus and that was God's people and his angels rejoicing that God's judgment and Justice had finally come to make wrongs right again. We pointed out we're not rejoicing that other people are suffering. We are rejoicing that God is righteous and holy and just in that now so we can look for a new Heaven and a new Earth because he's going to deal with all this in and that's what's happening here at this great white Throne. We see the object. Notice also the occupant that is on this Throne we pointed this out him. That's at that's the description that's given in a participial phrase him that set

Let me give you some words from Hamilton regarding this judgment on this Throne of judgment is Jesus Christ on the great white Throne? Why do we say Jesus Christ? It says him that sat. Well, I think we can infer rightly that this is Jesus. How do we get there? Well through the scriptures the father gave old judgement to the sun. If you recall that back in the Gospel of John and chapter 5 and verse number 22 as well as first number 27, we found out that the Judgment of all things was committed from the father Unto the Sun. It is Jesus who is said to be on the throne at the final judgment and Matthew chapter, 25 verses 31 to 36. We're departing happens in the Judgment seat is called God's judgement seat in and Romans chapter 14 and verse number 10, and we also read about Christ's judgment seat in places like 2nd Corinthians 5:10. We must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ. And so we shouldn't have any difficulty. When we come to this aspect of one sitting on the throne, who is this thinking about the father and the son being one in a sense quality and character that'll separate a good Baptist from a Jehovah's Witness or Mormon any day of the week that Jesus Christ is one with the father in essence quality and character Jesus Christ as the confessions stated is very God of very God. He's very man of very man. He's as much as God as he could ever be he's as much man as he could ever be and Jesus is one with the father. He said that himself I and my father are 1 and so it shouldn't disturb us to think about the father and the son being one in nature one in purpose 1 and righteous Works Christ, sat down with the father on his throne. We read back in Revelation chapter 3 and verse 21. That's the Throne of the Lamb. That's the throne. If you read the words that says, it's the Throne of God and of the Lamb there noted both are revelation 22 verse number one judgment is to be carried out by the sun Paul recorded that for us in his sermon in Acts. 17:31 on Mars Hill. Judgment is to be carried out by who the son it was committed unto him Romans Chapter 2 inverse number 16 that we actually read in our scripture reading today tells us that the sun will judge all things and as he went forth on that white horse in Revelation 19:11, just one chapter previous to where we are here in John's Revelation. He comes forth to conquer his enemies even so shall he sit on a white Throne to judge or when a white horse a white Throne the quality of white the quantitativeness of it is that it is great. There is one sitting on this Throne who is the Lord Jesus Christ. Think about it this way in the words of nickel. He said that who is he who is to decide our portion for eternity listen now? He who is to decide our portion for eternity is the very being and he spelled that with a capital B. Thank you. The very being denied as our Surety. I'll read it one more time. So you can think about it who is to decide our portion for eternity is the very being dyed as our short.

What is the outcome we see the object? It's a great white Throne. We see the occupant it is the Lord Jesus Christ sitting upon his throne. I believe that and if you want to stay it to God then we're saying the same thing God is sitting on his throne now the outcome what happens as John continues his vision, we see that the Heaven and the Earth fled away back in that verse that we read together and burst number. Reverse number 11 from whose face the earth and the heavens let away and there was found no place for them. This is an interesting thought no place found both the Old and the New Testaments affirmed that the earth and the heavens will pass away follow along with me on a scriptural Journey. I'm going to give you some verses to think about that might help us understand how the Earth and the heavens what are fleeing away here at John's description Psalm 102 verse 25 to 27 the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of their hands. They Shall Perish but Thou shalt endure. Did you catch that? Ye all of them shall wax old like a garment as a vesture that shalt thou change them and they shall be changed. What should we change like a vesture the Heaven and the Earth which were the work of God's hands but the psalmist recording again thou. Aren't the same and I years shall have no end. Can I come to the New Testament in Hebrews chapter 1 beginning to read inverse number 11? I believe the Apostle Paul here is recording this I won't argue if you tried to say it's not pull riding it but I believe Paul wrote these words. That's my personal conviction here. And he says they Shall Perish. But that'll remain as if you look at the context. He's talking about creation Heaven and Earth. They Shall Perish but they'll remain a test and they show old wax old as does the Garment that sounds familiar best your shout out fold them up and they shall be changed. But that work the same and that years shall not fail. But to which of the Angels said he had any time sit on my right hand until I make 9 enemies thy footstool are they not all ministering Spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be The Heirs of Salvation think about that verse in light of all that we've studied in Revelation about the Angels coming with with the lamb that's found worthy to open those seals and the angels come with those seven trumpets and then the Angels come one by one with those seven bowls of the wrath of God to minister God's judgment on this Earth. Are they not his ministering spirits? And so the Earth in the heaven shall be changed like a garment Peter recording forest and 2nd Peter chapter 3 verse number 10, but the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night in the witch the heavens the what the heavens shall pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with a fervent heat how many remember science class looking at a periodic table and all those elements on their? Well, they can picture that just melting of it. They didn't have that he knew about elements and thanks, but that boy science is amazing, isn't it? No more. We break things apart the more we seem to find the deeper. We look into the universe the more we seem to to unfold that God already knows they're amazing and we're told here prophetically that the elements shall melt with a fervent heat the Earth also and the works that are therein shall be Burned up, that's Bible. I'm not saying that I didn't make that up. That's the writing of God in friend. If we get upset about that. We need to take it up with God in it when we take it up with God. We're going to find out will be like Jobe we're going to have nothing to say before him by the time it's over we're going to find out he is Holy and just and that we are culpable. We are sinners and we deserve God's Wrath and judgment and aren't you thankful, aren't you thankful for salvation that we do not receive that which we deserve that God in his grace as Paul said in Ephesians chapter 2 4X Grace. Are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God. Not of Works lest any man should boast aren't you thankful that God looks down on his children had believed in his saving son.

Judgment without the curse without the fall without well as my Uncle Jay used to put it on not going to need these glasses up there any more a man?

Old things are going to pass away once and for all. So therefore because of this John record just in this in this in this striking statement here about the earth and the heavens fleeing away therefore from the face of the Lord the earth and the heaven fled away. Do you sense the all? John sees this great white Throne. He sees the one Singapore on it. And then he sees Earth and Heaven Swing Away. Now we continue the vision and we see in verses 12 to 13 the Judgment of the Dead. I read a verse 12 back in our passage John Sang and I saw note this maybe want to underline it or Circle it or highlighted or draw some attention to this word. I saw the dead now, I like to to point this out to folks because some people have a have a concern in some people even who are saved or concerned about standing before the great white Throne judgment and I'll take them to this verse and 11 we sit down and show them and ask them who did John see before this Throne of judgement. the dad he did not see the living. So friend if you have eternal life, then I don't see you at this judgment. If you have believe on the Lord Jesus Christ don't misunderstand me. You will go through judgment. You will face the Judgment seat of Christ and you will be judged according to your works, but it will be a judgement of rewards not a judgment of punishment and that will happen sometime before we come back to rule and reign with Christ in that time table. That's the Beamer. That's the Judgment seat of Christ. That's why we run the Christian race. That's why we serve the Lord Jesus Christ here and now but praying for those who are rebellious against God for those who have rejected Jesus Christ. We need to understand that what will God do with the person on the backside of Africa who is never heard the name of Jesus Christ and then and then died. I'm not sure how God's going to handle that but I do know the judge of all the Earth shall do right. I don't know how God's going to handle that situation. But what I am absolutely certain on is how he will deal with those who have heard about Jesus Christ and have decided to repeal and reject his offered salvation. Those are the people to whom it is strictly said in scripture. They will meet the Judgment of God because sin must be paid for it has to be paid for and we will either pay for centaur cell for all eternity in a lake of fire or we can receive the wrath of God that was put upon the Son of God at Calvary by faith believing in him who died for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him and we receive salvation in our sins get washed away. As far as the East is from the West so far has he removed our transgressions for it from us and our sins and iniquities. He does remember no more. It doesn't mean he forgot them. He's on Mission and he can't forget. It means he'll never bring it up. He'll never charge you for those sense. Why because Jesus paid for them in your plates if you believe that but we note the Judgment of the Dead who's here the Dead.

These are they that have died once and are awaiting the second death. We were given the promise as Believers that the second death will have no no touch upon us. These are the dead know they are micro and mega. They are the small and the great and they stand before God.

That's kind of creepy, isn't it?

I'm going to let the text lie here and I'm not going to to try to put images in your mind about what this may look like, but just keep in mind. These are Corpses. Better standing before this white Throne, so they stand before God. That's the one sitting on the throne and the books were opened plural and there's a bowling in the verse and another book This Is Us is that another of the same kind of book was open. So the same type book, But this book is a singular book. It is The Book of Life. So the books were opened. And another book of the same kind was open and then the Judgment proceedings fell out and they began to be judged. Judge out of those things which were written in the books plural according to their works. So all those books that were open they go through in this mass of corpses before God the dead that are there are judged out of those books of works. notice who this is this is the guilty the dead Hebrews 9:27 tells us that it is appointed unto man once to die appointed unto man once to die, but after this

my translation my Bible does not read Annihilation there. As it is appointed unto man once to die and after this not a nihilation. No, that's that's an unscriptural Doctrine after this reincarnation know that's an unscriptural doctor. It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment. so we die, but we exist

Yeah, because we're going to stand before God each one of us in the capacity that we've already discussed. And so the guilty are here that those are the dead ones. These are they that have died without faith and their sins. They had died and Rebellion. They have died and unbelief. Let's I just want to make that absolutely clear. Notice who the judge is its God? Phillips Brooks set it this way. What is meant by standing before God, we're apt to picture ourselves a great dramatic scene host Beyond hosts ranked Beyond rank, the millions who have upon the Earth all standing crowded together in the Indescribable presence of one who looks not merely at the mass but at the end of visual and sees the whole life and character of every single soul. The picture is Sublime and is what the words of Saint John are intended to suggest this mess the strong of day before God and yet he singles out the individual one by one and looks at each individual for their Works according as it was written in the books. The evidence is given notice John says the evidence here is the things written. Books, this is the book of works. And I would also say the book of the word we can explain that a little bit. Jesus Christ is said in John 1:1 to beat the word in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God the same was in the beginning with God all things were made by him. And without him was not made anything that was made in him was the light. We read about that light. We know that we have a conscience. And so the sun is the word he is us he is the revelation of who God is if you want to know what God looks like then study about Jesus because he said if you've seen me you've seen the father you can get to know God by looking at how Jesus is his God's revelation. And so we might consider the books that that the Bible talk about. One of them is the Son of God. The other is the book of works. And these are the Deeds that all have done and this is something that maybe people in our day just think is a farce there. They don't really see an accountability before in Almighty Creator, but those who know and believe the Bible understand that God has a record-keeping device and a and a means to be able to note every word every deed whether it's said or thought God knows and he has them all written down in his book. Try that with a computer sometime and tell me how it works out. But we haven't even begun to unlock things in the human computer of the brain that God created us with and so God is is able to do this. We believe that by faith. There's a book of works. There's a book of the word and then there is another book the third book that I would submit to you is the book after this is after the book of works and after the the word of God which we would also include inspired scriptures in there. The Book of Life John mentions The Book of Life the book of life we see and in scripture woven throughout scripture in the Book of Life originally had the names of all mankind written within it I believe but as men historically refuse to repent of the sins confirming their old nature died in an unrepentant State the Bible says that your name is blotted out of the book.

These three books the book of works the Book of Jesus the book of the scriptures and then the Book of Life in the mouth of two or three Witnesses shall every word be established. We have three Witnesses against our sins as a depraved creation who has fallen from the glory that God created us with in the in the beginning. The Bible Works The Book of Life. These are witnesses to God's holy and just condemnation John gave the finalization. He said it this way the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the book. Do you sense the finality of it? Is it coming home to roost yet? Does it strike you does it penetrate you deep the sense of finality? The dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books. the resurrected dead will stand at the great white Throne judgment and be judged by that which has been and still is written in these books. The judge will look at each person's record the book of works and will declare that. These works are worthless as Isaiah recorded all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags before a Thrice. Holy God. The fool has said in his heart. There is no God. They are corrupt. They have done abominable works. There is none that doeth good Psalm 14:1. How many do good?

I did read that correctly none. And without the grace of God each one of us would be before this Throne if it weren't for the Lord Jesus Christ. So the judge will scrutinize each life and compare it with The Preserve scriptures in the book of Works compare your life to the scriptures over and I don't know about you, but I'm feeling about about negative this big now, you know, just smaller the more I think about it. This is the measuring stick and to this day when I get in this word in the Holy Spirit shows me things and the light of God penetrates my heart and I look at that and I say God, you're holy and I'm not. I am a worm and no man. What is man that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man that thou visited him when I put myself up against this standard friend. I see I fall drastically short and I am looking by faith for that day. When Jesus makes me everything that I'm supposed to be in him and I am fully and finally confirm His Image once for all sin a Raticate from the presence of this old flesh and I'm transform changed in the moment in the twinkling of an eye and I am with the Lord and Glory Hallelujah and I can serve the Lord without falling short. I can do things for the Lord without it being toiled. Oh, what a day that's going to be my friend. That's a hope that I have not all have that. Hope some have condemnation that they are waiting for because they have rejected Jesus Christ and God's offered salvation. The scriptures declare our dismal failure. Remember the Lord himself said this in in defeating the devil in his Temptations and look for for that man. Should not live by bread alone, but by every word of God

And then the just Lord after looking at works and and end in the books that are open. I believe one of those will be the word himself taking the word and judging us.

After that, then the book of life will be carefully examined. And it will be declared that the name has been blotted out. As she warned in in Exodus chapter 32 inverse number 33 whosoever had sinned against me him. Will I blot out of my book?

And those that have sinned against the Lord.

notice the final verdict I would put it this way to you simply guilty as charged. Guilty as charged the works. Don't measure up o even those good works. They can't erase the bad know. They can't Blood Out the bad no friend. We will give an account of all the good all the bad and all that's written down. And it might determine which level of hell you land in depending on if your good works that way your bad, but hell is your destination regardless if you have rejected Jesus Christ. The final verdict is guilty as charged first number 13 and the Sea gave up the dead which were in it and death and Hell delivered up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man. According to their Works Ezekiel elaborate on this a little bit the personal account accountability that we each had before God and it in is Ezekiel chapter 18 and verse number 20 the soul that sinneth

it shall die. Not some other Soul note the soul that sinneth it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father. Neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the Sun the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. So at the great white Throne judgment, when all the laws will stand before God, he will judge them for their very works. Not those of someone else no one will be permitted to claim the fallacious humanistic element that has been attempted since the days of Jeremiah. I'm getting better. I'm getting better. I'm getting better know you're not mankind is perpetually getting worse according to my estimation. But what do I know?

Nobody's going to be able to claim.

Jeremiah said it this way in chapter 31 in those days. They shall say no more of the fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge but everyone shall die for his own iniquity every man. That eat is the sour grape his teeth shall be set on edge. I had a few sour grapes growing up in Georgia. You stop by the roadside sometimes and well, I can't call him grapes. Most of them are muscadines or something like that. But some of them I got boys talk about setting your teeth on edge. That's a good description judgment. I think that's an accurate picture that Jeremiah gives God's judgment will be true. It will be just it will be accurate. There will be no mistakes. There will be no confusion. It will be unlike the American justice system.

notice the sentencing I would give you one word for this. cast

they must face the records of Christ. There will be no exclusions. There will be no excuses. There will be no Escape. The character will be fairly revealed. The conduct will be fully rewarded. The resurrection will be of the Dead the reward will be the Lake of Fire.

And then we see in verse 14 the destiny of death in hell. So the dead have been judged. Out of the books their name has been determined as Blood Out Of The Book of Life.
