The Light Is Seen Luke 2:8-20
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
· Fear comes before direction
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
· Unusual circumstances can bring great joy.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
· A Repeat of Isaiah’s prophecy – a fulfillment of prophecy
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
· Vs. 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Here we have the coming of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and His birth is not announced in Rome, Jerusalem, or Caesarea; no, it is announced in the countryside to faithful, lowly shepherds. We might look at the circumstance surrounding the Birth of Christ and wonder what the point was, but I want us to see 4 things today…

His Birth was for the common man!

Jesus didn’t come for only the rich and famous! He didn’t come to stand on those who were poor! He came to provide salvation to all and He came a poor little child!
Our responsibility is to show God’s love in our lives -

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

His Birth Was unexpected

Now, His birth had been prophesied long before, but no one was waiting for him! This was a complete lack of faith!
There wasn’t anyone waiting to write an article for the newspaper or for the TV News.
No one was waiting outside the hospital door to hear what the specs of the child were! No one was waiting to hear the weight and height.
It was quite the shock to the shepherds to suddenly see an angel…and then hear the angel…and then hear a choir of angels! The last people you would expect to told about the birth of a King, would be these shepherds in the fields on the night-shift.
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
· Often, the lower someone is in the eyes of society, the more God can use them.
o The greater we are in our own eyes, the less God can use us.
· God wants each of us to be obedient to Him as these shepherds were.

III. The Obedience of the Shepherds – Vs.15

The progression of the Shepherds:

A. ความกลัว Fear

1. The size of the Bible – Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand, but be obedient to what you do understand.

2. The scope of the Great Commission

3. The claim of God on our lives –

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Remembering the Word of God – Vs. 12

Obedience to the Will of God – Vs. 15-16

IV. The Evidence of a Life Changed by God – Vs. 17

You want others to know about the change that has happened!
Think about where you were going before salvation! They’re still going there!
Think about the peace that you have knowing your sins are forgiven! They don’t have that!

It doesn’t say everyone believed them – Vs. 18

Obedience comes before Righteous Praise – vs. 19

If they had not been obedient, would they have been able to praise God like they did?
· Many Christians wonder why they have such a hard time praising God and it could be that they are not obeying what they do understand.
o We are more concerned about what people think of us on FB, IG, TW, etc. instead of whether our lives (the lives God has redeemed) are pleasing to Him.
* They aren’t faithful to walking with God.
o They aren’t faithful to church
o They aren’t faithful in their dreams and ambitions – it’s all about I, me, mine!
o They aren’t faithful in being a verbal witness
o They aren’t faithful in being a living witness – drawing attention to yourself instead of to Christ – More consumed with getting the world’s approval of our clothes, styles, possessions, experiences instead of leading them to see the peace of Christ that passes understanding and doesn’t need the approval of man.
Conclusion: Everyone is looking for something in life, but the only way to have true joy and contentment in life is to be first obedient to Christ. I am not promising an easy life, but I know that if we are living in disobedience we will not be able to claim the promises of God’s Word!
