The Hinge Pin of the Family
1 Peter 3:1-7
CSB:
Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Ephesians 5:22-6:
Ephesians 5:25-6:4
Colossians 3:
Five Principles for Men to be Godly in the Family, while living in an ungodly world.
We are to live “likewise.”
This is connected not only to the “likewise” in v. 1, but goes back to the verses in chapter 2:13-25, which talks about us living in submission.
We are to conduct our lives under the submission of human authorities, servants are to be submissive to their masters because this is God’s will for us and it places us under ultimate submission to the Lord.
We are to abide with our wives in an understanding way.
This means that we are to live in moral wisdom, such as is seen right living, or living wisely
We are to show them honor.
Showing reverence, seeing their very preciousness, seeing them of value (not valuable as a piece of property)
We are to view them as tender or weak.
This weak does not mean that we are to view our wives or woman as inferior to us as men, but to recognize that there are physical differences in body and differences in roles in marriage and life, but equal to us spiritually because of Christ.
Both men and women were made equally in the image of God.
This means that we are all the image bearers of God.
We are equal in our sinfulness.
And we are equal as coheirs of the grace that God gives through faith in Jesus Christ.
I am not going to say what I am about to say just because of the current events of the past few months that you may heard about concerning some leaders within the SBC.
I am saying this because it is the truth and from God’s word.
IT IS NOT OK FOR A HUSBAND TO ABUSE GOD’S WORD IN ORDER TO ABUSE THEIR WIVES OR ANY WOMEN IN THEIR LIFE! NO TYPE OF ABUSE IS ACCEPTABLE!!!!! VERBAL, MENTAL, PHYSICAL, ANY AND ALL TYPES WHATEVER THEY MAY BE.
IT IS NOT OF GOD AND YOU ARE NOT BEING SUBMISSIVE TO THE LORD.
HONESTLY, TREATING YOUR WIVES, CHILDREN, ANYONE ABUSIVELY, MAKES YOU A COWARD AND NOT A MAN, HUSBAND OR FATHER AT ALL!!!!
If we have children, we are as fathers, to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
(Ephesians and Colossians)
Discipline and instruction means the whole training and education, which relates to the cultivation of mind and morals and employs for this purpose, commands and admonishment, reproof and punishment; that lifts up and encourages the child with the teaching that belongs to the Lord or proceeds from him.
This means that we are not to cause our children to become discouraged because we have treated them in such a way that causes them to be roused to wrath, to exasperate, or be of anger toward us.
This provoking is intentional and is not of God.
