The Condition of Israel

I believe The fig tree is Israel.

The Fig tree symbolises Israel in scripture

Because of the timing of this miracle.

It is the last days of Christ's earthly appearance. Not only is Christ rejected of Israel "He came unto His own and His own received Him not", but Christ finally rejected Israel.

Rom. 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Israel was full of religion, but did not know the reality of a relationship with a living God. Instead of living faith they were stuck in dead formality.

Isa. 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Rom. 10:2-3 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

II Tim. 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

John 15:1-8

A Condition Characterised by the Presence of Leaves, but the Absence of Fruit

A tree does not fulfil it's primary purpose until it bears fruit.

Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

An apple tree must bear apples, a peach tree must bear peaches, a cherry tree; cherries and a fig tree is not fulfilling it's purpose until it produces figs.

This Fig tree was not what it appeared to be.

Leaves are attractive.

They serve certain purposes, and are valuable in some sense on their own.

But the leaves alone promised something that they couldn't deliver.

The leaves were decietful and hypocritical.

This Dreadful Condition begins in the Roots

Mark 11:20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

The Condition is Cureable

Luke 13:6-9 Her we have the parable of the barren fig tree. Do not confuse with actual account of the blasted fig tree.

In this passage we find that the unfruitful tree has yet hope of producing.

vs.8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

It is salvageable through prayer and labour. Intercession and service.

The tree that bears little fruit may also yet bear more fruit by means of purging.

John 15:Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

The Persisting Condition results in Destruction

Mark 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

Jesus knew that the tree would not bear fruit at a later time.

Luke 13:9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
