I) Introduction

The New King James Version Chapter 8

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

II) Walking According to the Spirit (V. 1-4)

4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

No Condemnation

The believer is not doomed

Free from penalty

Counted as righteous

Safe and secure

Never condemned for sin

BE AWARE HE STILL WILL BE JUDGED FOR HOW HE USES HIS SPIRITUAL GIFTS!

***Only the BELIEVER who is in Christ gets this privilege

What does being “in Christ” mean?

Christ lived, died, and rose

the believer Lives, dies, and rises in Christ.

If He/She believes, and lives life as Christ would have them, then God places them “IN Christ”.

They are counted as being among those counted faithful.

You cannot walk by the law or by the “rules” of the denomination, but only by the Spirit of God.

III) Living According to the Spirit (V. 5-8)

If you live by the World, you die by the world.

If you are slave to drugs, you die by drugs

Live by the gun, die by the gun

live by pleasure, die by pleasure

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Live by the Spirit and Live by the Spirit!

2. Live by the Spirit and Live by the Spirit!

Find eternal life by the Spirit

Find eternal peace by the Spirit

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

IV) The Indwelling of the Spirit

The Spirit Raised Jesus from the dead

He brought Him from the grave

to walk on the earth

to go to the Father

to send the Spirit back to us!

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

3. If the same Spirit which raised Christ

Indwells in you

you are saved and will never perish

10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
