The Truth
The Truth is that Jesus Christ is God.
He not a prophet, a man or any creature - He is Emmanual: God with Us.
That is the Truth and we now know the Truth.
Knowing this Truth is good, but unless this truth is acted on, its dormamnt.
Demons also believe that Jesus is God but you dont see them changing just because they know this truth.
Having come to know the Truth, The Truth at Jesus Is God, the next Step is obvious:
We Must Walk in the Truth
You can know the truth, teach the truth, preach the truth, aurgue bout the truth.
You can do all this and still not WALK in the Truth.
I know smokers who know they shouldnt smoke, fornicators who know they should be holy, alchoholics who know they shouldnt drink.
Knowing and Obeying are two very differnt things.
The Apostles Joy
It brought great joy to the Apostle to hear that this fellowship of siants was walking in the truth.
Whether this is family or s small church, the impact is the same.
It brings great joy to the pastor when he sees his flock walking in the truth.
In the same way that parents love it when their children are obedient so do I, but the same pain parents feel when their children are disobedient, the pastor feels that disapointment too.
When Charles Spurgion was just a small boy he often stayed with his granfather who was a pastor.
His grandthar had a member in the church Names Mr Roads who used sit in the pub and drink and smoke and it pained the pastors heart.
One day the young Spurgion saw his granfather weeping over mr Roads disobedince and said: Ill Kill that Road, Ill kill him now, i will not harm him but i will kill him.
With that he ran out the house.
A ran straight to the pub and shouted” What are you doing here Elisha, sitting with the ungodly, and you are church man.
You are breaking your pastors heart, I will never do that, of that I am sure!
Shame on your Roads.
The next week Mr Roads was in the pastors office in full repentance.
Young Charles killed him.
The Apostles Command
Truth is always a command.
Its the nature of truth.
Truth is not subjective to you agreeing with it, or accepting it.
It is an Objective reality that demands obedience.
The truth that Jesus is God is the ultimate truth and so demands ultimate obedience.
The word “command” is used 5 times in thsese few verses.
God’s commands “focus” the truth to specific area’s of your lives.
Jesus is God and the commands of God show us how Jesus, as God apply to specific area’s of our lives.
Look at the example given:
A command to love.
Thats not a new commandment in time, it was given before to Moses.
But now that the truth i know, that old command becomes new in its emphasis and power.
Because now we can love in the power of the Holy Spirit.
So every command in the New Testament is based on the truth that Jesus Christ is God and that therefore His Word carries with total divine authority that trumps every other authority including ourselves.
But this fact should not make us feel burdened because the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and his commands are not burdensome.
The Law was based on Fear.
The Commands of Jesus are based on Love.
Its very clear.
We must study the Word and be led by the Holy Spirit, so that we can see how the commands of the Word focus the Lordship of Jesus Christ onto Specific Area’s.
I surrender all - Then let the commandments bring whatever area’s of your life its speaking about into Subjection of the Lord Jesus.
As you read this passage you see these 3 truths blending into one another: truth, love and Obedience.
It is by believing the Truth - Christ and His Word - that we are saved.
The evidence of that Salvation is love and obedience.
But love and obedience are strengthened as we grow in Truth.
We live in a victorious circle the opposite of a vicious circle.
Area’s of Command?
LIST
We could preach for years, but it boils down to whether the truth has set you free or not.
Do you see these commands at a burden or a blessing?
