Honor Dads
Pic of daddy and bro Radke
I am going to share things that I have learned from my dad and other men, like Kathy’s dad Bro. Radke, Jon Elder, Billy Graham and other spiritual fathers in my life.

God has some things that he wants to put inside all of us.

One of the ways he does that is through our relationships. He puts it in us and we pass it on to others.

Generation to Generation

Transfer DNA Spiritual DNA
This also runs the risk of transferring the bad along with the good. ie: most abusers were abused. (97%) God wanted to put good inside each of us, but it rand the risk of transferring bad as well.
Everything that the enemy tries to do to you can be undone - find freedom.
Everyone can find freedom is something we believe. CR / Freedom Group and seminar
People have poured into my life. My dad… John Elder…
Psalm 145:4 The Message
4 Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts.
I loved to listen to the stories my dad used to tell. He was a story teller. He taught me so much in my life… mostly by observation. He could fix anything and my brother and I were always right with him under is feet trying to help.
Dad taught the Value - Excellence.

Stewardship.

Mom and dad would give even when they didn’t have it. Daddy had a welding machine and he would fix people’s trailers or whatever and most of it was for free… even though we did not have much ourselves. My first car, we built from 3 wrecked VW’s.
They always gave to the church. I learned to tithe… to give time… etc.
Give -
Save -
Live -

God owns everything. I am his manager.

God owns it all. Tithe is not giving him his 10%. He owns it all. Our job is to steward it while we are here.
Matthew 6:19–20 NIV84
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Highlands operates on 47% of what they take in.

Attitude.

When I was young, my dad’s business burned to the ground. You could see the fire from 2 counties. He never complained. He just went back to work to rebuild it. Later when it failed, he went to work for someone else but he never complained about his dream not working out like he wanted.

Life is 10% what happens to you & 90% how I react.

2 Corinthians 6:10 NIV84
10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
Turn every lemon into lemonaide.
to PAul -
we are going to put you in prison… would you… I have a little bot more on Eph and they would give me some writing time.
If you don’t stop preaching, we will cut your head off… would you… to live is Christ… to die is gain.
What do you do with a guy with that kind of an attitude? Nothing.
Paul Radke - leaving the hospital after his wife died… someone asked him, how are you doing… sitting on top of the world, hanging my feet off, daring the devil to make a move.
Hading out Little red Bibles - someone didn’t want one… next.
?story of the boy who was a pessimists and the boy that was an optimist.

Humility.

Isn’t God good. It’s not about me or you… it’s about God.

A person on their face can never fall from that position.

Begin each day as low as you can… on your face with Jesus.
Matthew 5:5 NKJV
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Start every day with God on our minds and invite him into our lives, our businesses, our relationships...

Rest.

Matthew 11:29 NIV84
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
When we step into his yoke, he will give us rest.

Prayer.

Had a pastor growing up who would get up early every day and pray for the congregation by name.
Bro Radke when his wife was diagnosed with cancer… went to the Lord in prayer until he felt like he had prayed through.

Prayer should be our first response, not our last resort.

Not only prayer, but prayer with fasting.
Matthew 17:19–21 NKJV
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
It takes prayer and fasting.

People

People are important.
Billy Graham - you thought you were the only one he had to talk to. He looked at you and lifted you.
How can we do this? Regardless of what kind of a person they are, I ...

Put a “10” on everyone

Tell people what they can be, not what they are. You might have to look deep, but there is gold inside everyone.
You will not hear, you never… pray… you never ....
If you have come in here beat up by a church - I’m sorry. That’s not what God has in mind for his church.
Matthew 7:12 NIV84
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
John 8:10–11 NLT
10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
The only way we can leave our life of sin is if we don’t feel condemned by the one who is leading us out of that sin.
These values are important to me and they are important to this church. It’s our spiritual DNA...
You may not have had a good Father experience… look at this verse.
1 Corinthians 4:14–16 NIV84
14 I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. 15 Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.
Paul said he took the people who were not there and put other people in their place. This is why it’s important for you to plug in and NOT church hop. You have to have a relational connection. You need spiritual Fathers.
Malachi 4:6 NIV84
6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.”
We are seeing that in our countries right now. The enemy is attacking our homes.

3 Takeaways

If you ave been disappointed in your past....

1. Allow God to heal the Father wound.

You need the power of this verse to do what we want to see… for you to find freedom.
James 5:16 NIV84
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Have someone you can tell what’s happened to you… who can pray with you and God will bring healing.
Psalm 68:5–6 NIV84
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. 6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
You don’t need a church, you need a family. Our church, the church is a spiritual family. No matter how small we are or how big we grow, we keep that family feel through our small groups, dream teams…
Heaven and Hell are real places so we are mandated to reach people who desperately need to know Jesus. If you will get in a group at the end of July, or join on of the dream teams: greeters, ushers, River Church Kids, River Church Youth, hospitality.

2. Be a Father.

Men, women, young and old. We can all do the principle of fathering.
Principle of fathering - take our lives and pour it into someone else intentionally. Here is what will happen.
Galatians 6:7 NIV84
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
When you sow love… you receive love… When you give friendship, you will have friends.
Talk about the Growth trac… (membership, gifts, leadership, serving)
The reason for relational wounds we go through are to separate us from having a relationship with God.

3. Relate to God as Father.

Romans 8:15–17 The Message
15 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” 16 God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. 17 And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!
My deepest prayer is that you can know him intimately as a father. There is incredible value inside each one of you. You are loved. You need to know that so that you can take it and make a difference in the lives of others.
Prayer
Thank you for the heritage.
stewardship, attitude, humility, prayer, people.
Jesus came to destroy the sin that separates you from God … not so you can be a Christian, but so you can be in the family. You don’t have to join our church, but you do have to receive Jesus...
John 14:6 NLT
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
John 1:12 NLT
12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
