Lk 12:13-21. Ben Murphy. This Sunday we continue our series examining the parables of Jesus by looking at a parable in which Jesus challenges us about how we set priorities in life. In Luke 12 we find Jesus teaching a crowd when two men come up to Jesus looking for him to solve their squabble over an inheritance. Now as is Jesus way, he side-steps the issue all together and instead addresses the men’s hearts to reveal how they’re priorities are completely off track. Through telling the Parable of the Rich Fool Jesus powerfully demonstrates to these two guys, and to the rest of us, that we are fools to invest everything in this world and nothing into eternity. Jesus warns us that life in this world is fragile, to invest everything here and now is to risk suffering bankruptcy in eternity.
