Jesus Prayed for His Glory and the Father’s Glory

The Glory of Christ

Jesus was a normal man.

When Jesus stepped out of heaven to come to earth to do the will of the Father, He surrendered some of His glory.

He did not come as a king that was served but a servant that was a king.

He came to earth as a normal human being subject to the limitations of humanity.

He was fully man.

He got tired, hungry, thirsty, faced temptation and many other limitations of humanity.

He lived a life of sorrow and suffering.

Jesus came as an ordinary person, that had nothing that made him stand out as royalty.

His physical appearance was not one of beauty.

He experienced many sorrows in this life.

Other people looked down on him rather than looking up to Him.

He did not come the first time the way he will come the second time.

Jesus glorified the Father by accomplishing the Father’s work.

Jesus is speaking of the salvation of those who are going to put their faith in Him for salvation.

He is going to the cross to die for their sins.

He is going to resurrect from the dead to give them life.

He is going to return to usher us into eternal life.

Man separated himself from God when He sinned.

Jesus reconciled man to God by paying the price for our sin.

This fulfillment of God’s will ultimately brings glory to God.

It reveals His mercy, kindness, and love!

to glorify v. — to positively acknowledge, recognize, or esteem one’s character, nature, or attributes.

Jesus asked the Father to glorify Him with the glory that he had before the world was.

Jesus was going to return to the Father.

He was asking the Father to restore to Him the glory of the Godhead.

We are to ask that God be glorified and seek to glorify Him.

We do this the same way Jesus did.

We accomplish His will.

We make His name known.

As we get close to God, He reveals His purposes.

We adjust our lives to fulfill His purposes.

We are also to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Too many times we fail in glorifying God.

We desire to glorify ourselves (pride).

When we want people to think more of us, rather than glorifying God in us, we sin.

We desire to glorify our kids.

There is nothing wrong with supporting our kids, but when we live our lives through our kids, it is sinful.

God created us to be who He created us to be.

We are to live our lives for the glory of God.

Everything we do, say, or think should run through the filter of, “How is this going to glorify God.

Jesus prayed for the Apostles To Be Kept In the Name of the Lord.

onoma nature ⇔ name n. — a person’s attributes, nature, and very self understood as summarily comprehended in the person’s name.

Jesus wanted the apostles to exhibit the nature of God in their own lives.

He wanted them to demonstrate the nature of God.

What is the nature of God?

Jesus was asking God to help the Apostles to exhibit these qualities in their own life.

It is the demonstration of these characteristics that will draw people to God.

We need to exhibit these qualities in our lives.

People notice the way we live our lives more than they hear what we say.

When we exhibit the fruits of the spirit, people are drawn to this.

Go through the fruits of the Spirit and demonstrate by showing the opposite how they draw people to God. (Love - Hate, Joy- Misery, Kindness - Rudeness, goodness- evilness, faithfulness- unfaithfulness, gentleness- harshness, self control - uncontrol.)

Jesus Prayed For Us To Be Kept From the Evil One.

Satan’s number one objective is for us to be of the world and desire the things of the world to the extent that we become a friend of the world.

Many believe that Satan’s number one objective for us is to get us to sin.

His objective is much larger than this.

He desires for us to buy into his world system.

Believing that the world is all we need and have no need for God.

Jesus prays that we do not fall into Satan’s trap, but that we are sanctified.

Hagiazo to sanctify v. — to make as dedicated to God; either in becoming more distinct, devoted, or morally pure.

Jesus desires that we are set apart from the world system and to be a part of building the kingdom of God.

Philippians 3:20

Satan is alive and well today.

He is drawing more and more people into his world system and away from God.

We must not fall into his system, but instead pull others away from his system and to God.

Jesus Prays That We Spend Eternity With Him.

John 17:

Jesus ask the Father that those who receive Christ as their Savior spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

We will see the glory of Christ and the sorrows of this world will pass away.
