Introduction
Greetings...
When we sing the song “In Christ Alone” there is a story being told.
The information being discussed is about Jesus our Savior, but the story is about a Christian’s motivation.
It’s about a child of God’s motivation each morning, noon, and night.
It’s about a child of God’s motivation each day, week, and year.
As we study hear the beauty and the motivation behind the words.
Christ Alone Is My Cornerstone
A foundation is critical to any sound structure built.
Webster’s defines it as, “The underlying base and support...upon which something is built up.”
Webster’s defines it as, “The underlying base and support...upon which something is built up.”
Andrew Morrison of StrawBale construction wrote, “It man seem like a simple part of the overall construction process, but getting the foundation right is incredibly important.
The biggest reason for this is that any mistakes you make in the foundation will only get worse as you go up.
It’s known as compounding defects...”
The cornerstone is the most important stone in the foundation because it sets the foundation in the proper direction.
If the cornerstone is off so too is the foundation and the rest of the structure.
What does all this have to do with Jesus?
Christ is the cornerstone.
Jesus is the cornerstone of the church.
Jesus is the foundation as well.
1 Cor 3:11
Jesus is also cornerstone of the foundation.
Because Jesus is the cornerstone and foundation of the church He and His Law are the measuring stick.
This is why Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Summery
If Jesus isn’t the foundation of your faith, hope, and love then the fiercest drought and storm will not keep you firm but toss you to and fro.
However, we know why Jesus is our foundation or cornerstone of righteousness.
(SING)
Christ Alone Is My Atone
Jesus had to become flesh to be our sacrifice.
Atonement required blood.
Blood required God in the flesh.
Without Jesus becoming flesh and sacrificing His life there is no forgiveness of sins for sinners.
Is there any greater motivation needed than that?
Jesus bought back our life from Satan.
Jesus continually offers up His blood as a cleansing agent for those walking in the light.
Summery
Christ alone took on flesh and though His gift of love was scorned by the ones He came to save His gift still satisfied the wrath of God because in the death of Christ we live.
2 Cor 5:15
Because of this great sacrifice we are to belong to Christ and our very breath should be reliant on Him.
(SING)
Christ Alone Is My Very Breath
Breathing is a vital part of life for every human.
The average person, while resting, takes 16 breaths per minute, 960 breaths per hour, 23,040 breaths a day and 8,409,600 breaths a year.
If you have every been “short of breath” and can’t seem to “catch your breath” there are few things scarier at the time.
Without breathing there simply is no life.
Without Christ there simply is no life either.
When we obeyed the gospel we put on Christ clothing ourselves in Him.
Col
This means we have crucified our old selves of sin and hidden ourselves in Christ so that it is only Christ who lives in us.
Col 3:1
Being clothed with Christ means Christ is alive in us because we have crucified our “old man of sin.”
Summery
When up from the grave Christ rose to stand in victory having loosed the grip of sin on you and me we became His servant and He became our Master, we became His saved and He became our Savior.
When up from the grave Christ rose to stand in victory having loosed the grip of sin on you and me we became His servant and He became our Master, we became His saved and He became our Savior.
This is why “Christ Alone Is My Fearless Death.”
(SING)
Christ Alone Is My Fearless Death
A fearless death is the goal of every child of God I would imagine.
After all one of the main reasons we obey the gospel is because we are afraid of the afterlife without God and rightfully so.
A fearless death also makes for a guilt free life.
The idea here isn’t that we have “zero” guilt in this life but that we don’t live in a constant state of guilt.
Godly guilt is a good thing when pertaining to sin in our lives.
2 Cor 7:
However, that doesn’t mean God wants us in a state of guilt or sorrow but of joy.
Summery
There are a number of people who live there life feeling guilty about almost everything.
In Christ we can live free from guilt but it requires us walking in righteousness.
READ the fourth stanza again!!!
Conclusion
In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my Light, my strength, my song.
Conclusion
Christ Jesus is our precious cornerstone, a sure foundation, a line of justice, and a righteous plumb line ().
