| * \\ 6 Now the men of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.
\\ 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land.
And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, \\ 8 but my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear.
I, however, followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.
\\ 9 So on that day Moses swore to me, 'The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.'
\\ 10 "Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert.
So here I am today, eighty-five years old! \\ 11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.
\\ 12 Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day.
You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the LORD helping me, I will drive them out just as he said."
\\ 13 Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.
\\ 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.

\\ 1. Uncontrollable Choices (v.
7-8a)
· Think Caleb ever thought, in a quiet moment, “My life would be so different right now is those ‘bone-heads’ had just made a different choice.”
· Sometimes you get over-ruled.
Sometimes the ripples of the choices others make become a storm-surge that sweeps through your life.
· Listen!
You cannot control the choices other people make.
- As an employee
- As a spouse
- As a parent
- As a part of a church
· But, you are responsible for your on choices and how you deal with the life you have.
· Rather than become bitter about other’s choices, Caleb and Joshua just kept on being faithful to God, even though they knew good and well that the people made a stupid decision.
· Don’t use other’s mistakes become your excuse for not doing what God wants you to do!

8b-9)
· Now, an old man, Caleb says, “I never stopped singing the song God gave me!
I have lived my life remembering what God wanted me/us to do.
Now, it’s time for all of us to be obedient!”

\\ 3. Directional Choices (v.
11-12)
· Lot of people trust God, but that trust is never allowed to be tested.
· Live life so safely, that a risk is never taken.
· Become content with what is, no matter how they might complain about the status , quo. (My favorite Ronald Reagan quote was, “Status Quo is Latin for ‘this mess we’re in’)
· Those people will never know the joy of the promised land!
· You can get so used to your life as it now is, that you keep going in circles, doing the same thing, day after day, eating the same food, sitting on the same rocks – and you’re going nowhere! Guess what?
Going nowhere is easier than stepping out into an adventure, where you don’t know for sure what you’re about to get into, you just know that God said, “Do it!”
· Too often, we play at life, we dance around life, and we goof off with life.
