Introduction
Today our our summer series, “Jesus the Miracle Worker”will continue in John chapter 9. as we read the story of Jesus healing the man BORN blind.
Blindness from birth is different than becoming blind.
No one believe that man born blind could one day see.
Even today with all our technology is there much hope for seeing if you are born blind.
The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
-Helen Keller
The message of the miracle is not that Jesus can open the eyes of a blind man… BUT that we are all born spiritually blind and Jesus has the power to open our spiritual eyes.
In that day, Jews believed that birth defects came from sin of the parents or sin of the child in the womb.

as we read about the Miracle of feeding the 5000.
The real tragedy in life is being spiritual blind.
Hopelessness is a lie from Satan.
The blind man was hopeless.
The blind man parents were hopeless.
The neighbors were hopeless.
With Jesus there is always hope.
The
One theme that John uses in his Gospel is the Night/Day… Darkness/Light.
Let’s look back to John chapter one:
JOhn 3:19-
Jesus speaks of John the Baptist...
John 8:12
Look at verse 9:4-5:
The “we” in the passage is a reference to the disciples in which he was speaking.
Jesus is referring to “day” as the time before Jesus’ betrayal by Judas, and night begins with the betrayal and the cross!
John 13
When the Holy Spirit comes on the day of Pentecost it comes to believers’ hearts, not the world.
This world is still in darkness, it is still NIGHT and believers are flashlights in this dark world.
We must shine the light of hope into the night for people to see and believe.
This story is more than a miracle, it is a sign of the work of Jesus and his disciples in the world.
The Message in the Miracle
The blind man did not ask Jesus to heal him.
Jesus initiated everything for the blind man to be healed.
The blind man must act in obedience to Jesus’ command to receive the healing.
This was not a faith action but an act of obedience.
The blind man does not know what is about to happen, but when he obeyed God, “he came home seeing”.
Spiritual Needs are met:
By Jesus, and Him alone.
He has met all of your spiritual needs on the cross.
When we are obedient to Jesus.
To my surprise the word, “obedience” is only used twice in the Gospels.
In the Gospel of Luke is used for Jesus obeying his parents and once is reference to obeying the Law.
But notice how it is used in these two verses:
Notice that obedience is the first step in righteousness and love.
Spiritual answers come when we practice blind obedience like the blind man.
Spiritual Blindness ()
The real tragedy in life is being spiritual blind, and the real story is about the Pharisees who were spiritually blind.
You become Spiritual blind when you refuse to believe.
Spiritual blindness is accompanied by three things:
Spiritual confusion about Jesus (9:16-17)
S
16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”
But others asked, “How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?”
So they were divided.
17 Finally they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him?
It was your eyes he opened.”
The man replied, “He is a prophet.”
John 9:16-1
Spiritual rejection of Jesus (9:18-26)
Spiritual anger about Jesus (9:27-34)
Spiritual Insight ()
Spiritual Insight
Comes from hearing the Gospel.
If we want to see spiritual eyes open we must tell people about Jesus.
Comes when we see ourselves as sinners.
John 3:1
Comes when we accept Jesus as Lord.
The Pharisees rejected Jesus because that claimed they could see, so their guilt remained.
Religious opinions block the believer from receiving Spiritual insight.

Your physical sight with lead you off a spiritual cliff called hell.
Spiritual blindness is physically dangerous!
WSC
You do not have to remain spiritually blind today.
Today Jesus went to the cross to open your eyes.
BUT you must be obedient to his word for your eyes to be open.
Do not reject him today.
Do not trust in your own opinion about God, TRUST IN JESUS!
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.
