Who are we talking about?

1 John 1:1–2 ESV
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—
1 John 1:1-2
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—
o From the beginning () In the beginning was the word
o concerning the word of life () In him was life, and the life was …
o the life was made manifest. () and the word became flesh
We are talking about Jesus.
§ Don’t just assume (that’s lazy Christianity)

What did they say about Jesus?

Which we have heard
(John & Peter) –
“Cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” (acts 4:20)
Which we have seen with our eyes
Which we looked upon and have touched with our hands.
Personal testimony

God with us

verse 2 – “The life was made manifest”
Christianity is not just based on some unique concept.
Jesus was a real man
Jesus made real claims about his divinity
Jesus made these claims publically
Listen closely to what John is saying…
We (apostles) met this man names Jesus
We have heard Him, seen Him, touched Him
We left everything to follow Him
The apostle were just ordinary men.
We understand who is.
“The life was made manifest.”
We committed our lives to that message.
§ We committed our lives to that message.
According historical documents all were martyred (except Judas Iscariot)

The eternal life

(verse 2)
Given here as a Title
Wrapped up in the identity of Christ is the promise of eternal life.
Amazing when you consider that we don’t naturally think of ourselves as eternal beings. (we life and we die)

So that…

So, all that you have told us in the opening verses … WHY? = ONE WORD

FELLOWSHIP

With the Father and His Son Jesus Christ
This word is at the heart of Christianity (Fellowship)
Fellowship with God the Father
Fellowship with Christ
Fellowship with other believers

You want a stronger marriage = seek God together
You want a closer relationship with your kids = seek God together
