You got this!
You got this!
We looked at part of Samson’s story and saw how he thought “I got this!” He was wrong.
He looked at part of Peter’s story and saw how he thought “We got this!” He was moving in the right direction but was wrong.
Today we will look at a young man, much like some of the young men here today. A young man who thought “You got this!” This young man was correct as he lived a life knowing that God was in control.
Daily Goliath would come out and challenge the Israelites.
11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
Looking at Goliath and hearing his words they lost their courage and were terrified.
When our eyes are not on the Lord and we allow the words of the enemy influence us, we will also lose our courage and be terrified.
Graduates for many of you, you are stepping out on your own. I totally understand. I was 17 when I graduated and I was 18 for only a matter of days when I moved 900 miles away to take on the adventure that God had for me.
As you step out you will be bombarded by Goliaths at every turn. You will hear lies daily that the enemy will throw at you. Lies like...
you are too young
you are too late
you are too immature
You are just not ready
32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
33 Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”
1 Samuel 17:32-
Saul told David that he was nor prepared and was too young.
If God has called you then, He’s got you!
Moses was 80 when God called to him from the burning bush.
David was a teenager when he killed Goliath
Lazarus was dead when God used him
So what is your excuse again?
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock,
35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it.

32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
Sounds very similar to parts of Samson’s story but there is a major difference...
David knew that God was in control.
1 Samuel 17:36-
36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.
37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
God used David to rescue sheep his earthly father’s sheep. Now God will use David to rescue His flock Israel.
As we continue in the story we read that David was given Saul’s armor but it was to big for him. So David took his staff, he chose 5 smooth stones and put them in his shepherd’s bag. He had his sling in hand and went straight to the battle.
Goliath looks over David and I could see him laughing when he saw this young man with no weapons of war, no armor. Goliath basically says “You kidding me? Really? This is the best you got?”
David never listens to the lie of his enemy nor allows fear to creep in. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear but a spirit of Power! ()
1 Samuel 17:45-
45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.
49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
David takes Goliath’s sword and cut off his head.
David knew he must live life and face daily battles with the attitude of “You got this!” Knowing it was fully in God’s control.
Graduates of 2018, men that can hear my voice, women that are present and children that God loves and wants to use mightily. Live knowing “You got this!”
Not you but God!
