When You Pray - Part 4

Kidz World Today - Children’s Church and Teen Growth Group
Matthew 6:5–13 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
When You Pray
Last Week - we looked at verse 9.
In verse 9 we find surrender and worship!
Today I want to go a little deeper in the Model Prayer and look at verse number 10
Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
In this verse we find that the manner of prayer - should be about requesting things from God and pleading for specific items and or issues!
In This Manner
Jesus says that we should Pray for the Kingdom Of God to come!
The Kingdom of God should be the focus of your request!
It should be the very first thing we ask!
This is the substance of our life - The Kingdom Of God!
We should have our focus and desire for the Reign of God on this Earth
Romans 14:17 NKJV
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:17 NLT
17 For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
God’s Kingdom is desperately needed in this earth realm!
In This Manner
Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Your Will Be Done!
This says three things
That you will work to please God!
That God can do with you what he pleases
That you will not be displeased with what God does
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
4 Things In Competition For Your Will
Your Own Will
Romans 12:1–2 NLT
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 7:15 NKJV
15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
Romans 7:16–25 NLT
16 But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. 17 So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. 18 And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 20 But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. 21 I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God’s law with all my heart. 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Galatians 5:17 NLT
17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
2. Other People’s Desires or wants for you
1 Peter 4:2 NKJV
2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
3. Satan’s Will
John 8:44 NLT
44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
4. What God’s Will For Your Life
Ephesians 5:15–17 NLT
15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Philippians 2:13 NLT
13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
1 John 2:17 NKJV
17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Conclusion:
In This manner pray for the Kingdom Of God to Come and Pray for God’s Will in your life!
This world is passing away - but those of us who do his will will live forever
