Faith as basis of salvation

Both in the OT and in the NT faith is the only basis of salvation. Faith is the means by which God’s grace in Christ, and with him the blessings of salvation, is received. Paul’s doctrine of justification by faith emphasises the centrality of faith in the Christian life.

Salvation by faith in the NT

Romans 1:16–17 NIV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ

Being “lifted up” is a reference to Jesus Christ’s death on the cross; The necessity of outward confession, as evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the “end of the law”, in the sense that he brings it to its goal and fulfilment, and accomplishes its intentions.

Colossians 1:21–23 NIV
