Where there is no vision, the people perish:

But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 29:18 NIV
Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.

what we take it to mean. if a church does not have a vision statement, they will not last;

the meaning of the word prophet is seer; someone who could hear from God an deliver God’s word to the people
Proverbs 29:18 NIV
Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
we will talk about the technical meaning of a vision as compared to a mission statement; that can get confusing, because those 2 words are used interchangeably;
in the Bible, it simply means knowing what God is saying to you in that moment, at that time; knowing what to do next, or to stop doing
without receiving revelation from God, we will go whatever way seems exciting; like a good opportunity; what will bring in new people; increase attendance, increase giving; driven by our fears and anxieties and worries; we will engage in excessive wordsmithing
primary question is not success, but faithfulness; are we hearing God
a vision statement, whatever technical meaning we give it, represents wisdom, not an unchangeable law; for this vision, written a few years ago, represents wisdom; what that group of people was hearing from God; that group of people believed that God had spoken and their mission statement was a response to that;
1 Corinthians 1:27 NIV
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
1 corinthians
