1 Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. 2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

“Grace of God” - Generous NT giving is evidence of the grace of God in your life

It reveals that you have received the gracious gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, that you have experienced his love and can’t help but distribute it to others!

NT givers are eager to give, not merely out of their surplus but out of their poverty! - Remember the Widows Mite!

Mark 12:41–44 ESV

41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

The Power to Give

Practical Thoughts

If you’re struggling with worry and trusting God with your money remember.

It’s not your money- it all belongs to him!

Be not conformed to the pattern of this world (temporal/physical-material focus), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Matthew 6:19–21 ESV

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Ask God to make him where your heart is instead of your money

Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV

The Big Idea in NT Giving- summed up in

ESV6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

The early church continued to experience the Lord’s blessing, because they knew the grace of God and it compelled them to demonstrate it in their giving.
