Intro

Acts 1:4–8 KJV 1900
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:7–8 KJV 1900
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Pentecost was the day that God fulfilled an ancient prophecy for the first time, a proise that has has gone on being fulfilled ever since.
Acts 2:17 KJV 1900
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
j.o.e.l 2 28
This is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Different from having the Holy Spirit for Recieving the Holy Spirit. The disciples had already received the Holy Spirit:
John 20:22 KJV 1900
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in believer at the moment of their conversion.
Galatians 4:6 KJV 1900
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Baptism of the Holy Sprit is a seperate event after conversion:
Acts 19:1–4 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Acts 19:1–7 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.
Acts 19:1–3 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
These wrere born again believers who had Christ and the Holy Spirit but like the 12 before the day of Pentecost, were not yet baptised with the Holy Spirit, giving them Power.

Power:

Acts 1:8 KJV 1900
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Dunamis - Dynimite!
Power for what and why?
Baptism in the Holy Spirit and its accompaning power are the next step from salvation. It is power to be His witnesses. Salvation is not the end, its the beginining of ministry. Jesus never had it in his will for ny christian to be saved and then concider the job done. Quite the contrary:
Matthew 28:18–19 KJV 1900
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28:18–20 KJV 1900
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The power of Holy Spirit Baptism is power that transformes a normal person into an ambasitor of Heaven. Look at peter’s transformation after Pentecost:
He went from a coward to a fearless preracher.
The Power we recieve is also given for the manifestation of Spiritual gifts, which are given for the express purpose of building up the church of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:7 KJV 1900
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
A Holy Ghost Baptised Christian like the difference between a soldier and a civilian. Both are fully legitimate citizins of the contry but only one has “sighned up for service” for that country. As a result they are put in charge of million rand equipment. Planes, ships, submarines, radar - a whole wost of powerful tools are entrusted to them because of their involvment.
The ame is true for the christian. One just wants to warm a pew, but the other ligitimatley yearns to see “thy kingdom come, they will be done”, and so regognised the need for every christian to b a ninister. They go before God and ask to be used and to recieve power to be useful, God then entrusting them with marvilous gifts for that purpose.
1 Corinthians 12:1–11 KJV 1900
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

How Does one get Baptised with The Holy Spirit?

The Simple Answer: Through Faith and the Laying on of Hands.
Acts 8:17 KJV 1900
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
1 Timothy 4:14 KJV 1900
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
And of course: faith:
Galatians 3:2–3 KJV 1900
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Faith, and the laying on of hand along with 2 things:
Galatians 3:2 KJV 1900
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
1: A willing spirit to serve:
Romans 7:6 KJV 1900
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
2: An expectant heart.
Luke 11:8–13 KJV 1900
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
So only 4 things are neccesery:
Giod wis willing!
Have faith.
Believe that God will give you this power.
Be willing to use whatevert gifts God bestows upon you
and have the church leaders pray with you, agreeing with you with the laying on of hand.
Come like this and you too SHALL RECIEVE POWER!!!!
