REMEMBERING WITH JOY
We’ve been in the book of Leviticus for the past few weeks:
Genesis - the book of beginnings - MAN RUINED
Exodus - the book of Redemption - MAN REDEEMED
Leviticus - the book of atonement & holy walk - MAN CLEANSED, WORSHIPPING & SERVING
Get right with God - keep right with God
The book of holiness - God says to the redeemed to be holy because I’m holy.
Lev 1:
Our lesson today is REMEMBERING WITH JOY.
Our principle objective today is to leave here today realizing it is the Lord’s desire that we rejoice in his possession and provision.

to make this applicable to our lives we have to REMEMBER daily that Christ has freed us from bondage and servitude to this world.
IN OUR TEXT BEGINNING AT,
INTRODUCING THE LESSON:
The YEAR OF JUBILEE reminded Israel that the land God had given them really belonged to God.
Our jobs, our households, education, and abilities…EVERYTHING WE USE AND POSSESS…belongs to God.
SABBATH YEAR - Also known as the sabbatical year.
A YEAR OF REST UNTO THE LAND - IT WAS TO BE DONE EVERY 7 YEARS
CYCLE OF 7 CONSISTED OF: 6 YEARS WORKING and 1 year of rest - 7…NUMBER OF COMPLETION.
The children Israel were going into the promised land…Caanan.
God was requiring that they work 6 years sowing and tilling the land, and enjoying its harvest.
BUT IN THE 7TH year....he required that they give the LAND REST.
The children of Israel went from sabbath days to sabbath years.
BASED ON THE SABBATH DAY CYCLE ESTABLISHED AT CREATION, THE LORD WANTED THEM TO FOLLOW THIS PATTERN FOR THE SABBATH YEAR CYCLE…Plant and prune their vineyards for 6 years, and REST THE LAND for the 7th year.
PURPOSE of the Sabbath - was to remember God’s rest from his great work of creation.
To help the poor.

In this sabbath year, they were to give the land a rest…give the donkeys a rest.
They were not to till the soil, or gather the harvest.
The Sabbath of the land was to provide food for everybody…them, their families, their hired workers, the cattle, the wild animals.
Whatever the land yielded on its own, was to provide meat for everybody.
LIFE APPLICATION: WHAT WOULD THIS SABBATH YEAR REQUIRE FROM THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL?
Faith and trust in God for provision
They had to totally trust that God would provide for them…that the land would yield food, meat for everyone.....WITHOUT THEM ADDING THEIR HELP.
God doesn’t need us to help him provide for us.
He just needs us to trust that he will do what he said he would do.
The Lord promised abundance in OBEDIENCE to his instruction.
The crop from the 6 year would be more than enough for the eyar anf for the next 2 years…(sabbath year, and the first year of the next cycle as they had to plant and prune again).
YEAR OF JUBILIEE
:
THE YEAR OF JUBILIEE was a time to proclaim liberty throughout all the land.
LIBERTY - MEANS TO BE MADE FREE
The year of Jubilee came after completing 7 cycles of sabbath years.
So after the 49th year, they had a year of Jubilee....in which 3 things would occur.
This occurred every 50 years...
All Israelite slaves, or indentured servants, were to be freed: THEY COULD GO HOME TO THEIR FAMILIES.
All ancestral property that had been sold had to be returned to the original family
The land was to be left untilled.
THIS WAS TO BE A TIME OF GREAT JOY AND PRAISE TO GOD FOR THE FREEDOM HE HAD GIVEN THEM.
God’s purpose in instituting this special year was to guarantee justice and to keep the rich from accumulating wealth and land at the expense of the disadvantage…or the poor.
We have to remember that the earth does not belong to us....we are only here temporarily…and God only made us stewards over his possession.
So to keep the wealthy from continuing to get wealthy, God institutued the year of Jubilee.
REMEMBERING WITH JOY....HOW WAS THE SABBATH YEAR AND YEAR OF JUBILEE THE SOURCE OF THE PEOLPLES JOY?
The people would be joyful as they remembered God’s provision for them…even when they did not plant their crops
they would be joyful as land that they had sold was returned to the owners so that the woners would not be impoverished.
they would be joyful as hired servants would be returned to their families…and not continue in servitude.
God is concerned about THE POOR AND FAMILIES....
WHAT DOES THIS YEAR OF JUBILEE MEAN FOR US TODAY?
WE ARE NOT BOUND TO THESE REQUIREMENTS TODAY, BUT WE CAN BENEFIT FROM THEM.
We are reminded of the seven DAY cycle of work....rest as the Lord intended.
both, the sabbath year and jubilee, remind of us God’s provisions for our needs.
WE an trust God to provide for us…we belong to him.
The Lord promised that if we are obedient to him he will meet our needs.
We are reminded to care for fellow believers....regard others.....the poor…those less fortunate.
Obedience to God brings joy…blessings…and peace.
WE cannot let possession become more important to us than people.
QUESTION...
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THE THINGS THAT GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU AND BROUGHT YOU THROUGH?
it keeps you humble…realizing it’s God…and not to yourself.
Keeps you from getting puffed up.
