Mark 16:1 NKJV
Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him.

Beliefs Hold Power

Story…Rollercoasters
Recap:
John 19:38–42 NKJV
After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

Now it’s Sunday morning:
The first thing we see is...

1. Words Are Cheap

Paralytic healed: Which is easier?
To say, you’re sins are forgiven
To heal the paralytic
No one really believed Jesus was going to raise from the dead.
Mark 16:1 NKJV
Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him.
Why would these women buy spices if Jesus was going to raise from the dead?
Alternative gifts:
“welcome home” cake
Favorite meal
Happy birthday?
a t-shirt that says “I conquered death and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”?
Nope. They bought spices.

They didn't believe what He said.

So, what did Jesus say?
What did Jesus say about His death?
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.
(NKJV)
31 For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”
(NKJV)
34 and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

2. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

How many times do I act in ways that prove that I don't believe the word of God?
You will never die...
(NKJV)
Mark 16:2–6 NKJV
Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
We will be resurrected...
(NKJV)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
You are a child of God...

Jesus rose from the dead!!!!

You are loved...
Fear God alone...
I am with you always...
That heaven exists...
There’s proof:

Eyewitness evidence

That hell exists...
(NKJV)
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
That this life is not "all there is'...
"When you combine the accounts in the Gospels, you arrive at the following probable order of Resurrection appearances on that first day of the week: (1) to Mary Magdalene ( and ), (2) to the other women (), (3) to Peter ( and ), (4) to the two men going to Emmaus ( and ), and (5) to ten of the disciples in the Upper Room ( and )."
Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 166). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books.
If it's not true, then what?
Without the resurrection, there is no Christianity. It all hinges on whether or not Jesus rose from death.
Paul states:
(NKJV)
13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
What does the truth of the resurrection mean for you right now, in your daily life?
What if we lived like we actually believed what God says?
Try it!
Take Him at His word. Trust Him. He earns the trust of His disciples after His resurrection. His promises are true.
(NKJV)
and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

Jesus is ALIVE!! We have hope beyond the grave!

3. God is for you even when life doesn’t make sense

Mark 16:6 NKJV
But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
(NKJV)
Mark 16:6 NKJV
But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
Pursue Him even when you don't understand what He is doing.
As long as we are seeking Jesus of Nazareth, we need not fear.
He conquered our deepest fears (when He was accepted as our atoning sacrifice on the cross and when He rose from death)
when He was accepted as our atoning sacrifice on the cross and when He rose from death. Our sins were forgiven and our future was made secure.
Our sins were forgiven and our future was made secure.
Seek Jesus! Ask, Seek, Knock! The door will be open to you. Run to Him. Pursue Him even when you don't understand what He is doing.

God’s perspective:

Jesus is working to secure the eternal salvation and eternal joy of every person who would ever believe in Him as their Savior. He was battling against the forces of hell and enduring the judgement of the Father so that we could be reunited with the God.

Man’s perspective:

From the perspective of the women who ran to the tomb to anoint Him, Jesus had failed them. They didn't understand why their Savior had to be tortured and mocked and shamed and murdered. They didn't understand why they had to suffer through this tragedy with broken hearts. They weren't looking out for their own future and the future of the millions and millions of people that would live after them.

4. True belief in Jesus…changes everything!

Mark 16:6 NKJV
But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
True belief in Jesus…removes fear.
But Jesus understood. He had been telling them His plan for a long time. Jesus knew the cosmic ramifications of His sacrifice. Jesus knew that the pain and suffering would have glorious results. Paul echoes this understanding in .

It removes fear.

True belief in Jesus…removes fear.
As long as we are seeking Jesus of Nazareth, we need not fear.
He conquered our deepest fears (when He was accepted as our atoning sacrifice on the cross and when He rose from death)

It gives real, eternal hope

Our sins were forgiven and our future was made secure.
(NKJV)
25who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
To make us right before God.

It changes suffering.

(NKJV)
17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
We begin to see suffering in our own lives in the context of the cross.
Why did this happen?
25who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
To justify us before God.
