We need to be trained by the Word of God and sensitive to the Holy Spirit to discern between good and evil.

One of the most deceptive, alluring and insidious baits that satan uses to entrap people is something we all experience, and will continue to encounter - Offense

Offended people often don’t even know they are trapped.
Some of the fruits displayed from the trap of offense are hurt, anger outrage, jealousy, resentment, strife bitterness, hatred and envy.
The fruit often presents itself in insults, attacks, wounding, division, separation broken relationships, betrayal, and backsliding.
Many people (Christians) don’t even know
People carrying offense become oblivious to their condition because so focused on the wrong that was done to them.

Often fellow believers are the ones who have hurt and offended them.
People we sang with, served next to, were led by, counselled by.
Maybe a spouse or child, mother or father.
Those we grew up with, confided in.

One way the enemy keeps us offended is by hiding the offense in our heart, cloak it with pride.
Pride keeps us from dealing with an offended heart.

Pride causes us to think of ourselves as a victim : “I am a victim, therefore I am justified” You believe you are innocent and therefore hold back forgiveness
Your pride can hide your condition, but not from God.
Just because you were mistreated you do not have permission to hold on to an offense.
Whatever wrong was done to a human being, it will never equal the wrongs suffered and forgiven by God.

Gold refined in fire is soft and pliable
Metals in unrefined gold (iron, copper, nickel, etc) make it hard and corrosive
Pure heart is like pure gold - soft and pliable, free from impurities
If we do not deal with offense, it will produce more fruit of sin (bitterness, anger, resentment, hatred).
This reduces or removes tenderness, producing a loss of sensitivity.
We are hindered in our ability to hear the Holy Spirit
