Intro

You’ve just gotten a ph. call. They’re calling to tell you how to get your money.
“…and I’ll have it for you when you get there.”
“…and I’ll have it for you when you get there.”
what would you do? What comes to mind? can you imagine how desparate you’d feel. talk about heart in your mouth
It starts out in the middle of something. You now something is due you. Based on who you know you’re talking to, it’s going to be good. BUT you don’t know what to do to get it. You don’t know where to go.

Pt: vs. 7 starts in the middle of a thought. read it…it’s missing something. We quote passage with intentions and expectations that we’ll get the sentinel of peace to show up.
sentinel: A soldier or guard whose job is to stand and keep watch.
It never says, “How you feel.” It’s not about if you’re doing well in life…if there stars are lining up

Revelation: Don’t look for what you need somewhere it’ll never be!

Transition:
Illustration: Who cooks…anybody gumbo? Pound cake. Try to ignore any 1 or 2 or 3 of the ingredients. How will it turn out? A: Not like you expect.
The answer to our out of whack position is we are skipping over the needed ingredients for peace.
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NKJV
16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.

The Lord is the source of peace (cf. 1 Thes. 5:23) and Paul prayed that He would bestow this on the Christians in Thessalonica. A Christian and a church enjoy peace when they are rightly related to the will of God. Paul prayed that this would be the Thessalonians’ condition at all times regardless of their circumstances, even in persecution.

Q: How do you pray this kind of prayer and believe it will work?
A: When you have what you need before you need the guard won’t stop moving!
Revelation: Don’t look for what you need somewhere it’ll never be!
Clarification: He’s not trying to infuse peace into a turbulent situation. He’s getting them ready for when a time comes and peace would seek to leak.
Ill: Quad was doing condition camp for summer lacrosse. He started 1 month ago. They don’t start playing til June but they’re practicing in April. Pt.: Coach knows that if they don’t start early, they won’t have what it takes to physically make it through the game and “wind” shouldn’t be what makes them lose. The way to coach against windless-ness in June is to make them run in April.
