Holy Spirit:

 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

On this Pentecost Sunday we should be excited that the promised Holy Spirit came is a mighty wind.

Luke reminds us in Chapter 12

8 “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, 9 but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

What is so valuable about the Holy Spirit that you can be forgiven for speaking against Jesus and can be forgiven but doing the same against the Holy Spirit you will not be forgiven.

I am sure that many would stand baffled about this but the Hebrew writer made it clear.

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

This word contempt(paradeigmatizo) meaning to disgrace publicly.

When we deny the presence, power, possibilities of the Holy Spirit we blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

This Holy Spirit is the Gift the Lord said he would send.

The power of the Holy Spirit not only our comforter but its our instructor, corrector, our guide.

With the power of the Holy Spirit we can do all things thru Christ which strengthen us.

Yes even resist sin.

And if we do sin gives us a prompting to ask for forgiveness!

Now to be forgiven implies that the sinner be truly penitent.

There must such genuine sorrow for sin.

Jesus addresses a crowd that accused him of casting demons in the name Beezelbob which they knew to be false!

Many even today refuse really to be repentant.

For penitence they substituted hardening; for confession, plotting.

Thus, by means of their own criminal and completely inexcusable callousness, they are dooming themselves.

Their sin is unpardonable because they are unwilling to tread the path that leads to pardon.

I have some good news for you.

All have sinned and fell short of the glory of God.

Yes even for a thief, an adulterer, and a murderer there is hope.

The message of the gospel may cause him to cry out, “O God be merciful to me, the sinner.”

But when a man has become hardened, so that he has made up his mind not to pay any attention to the promptings of the Spirit, not even to listen to his pleading and warning voice, he has placed himself on the road that leads to perdition.

He has sinned the sin “unto death” 16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death.

There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.

17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.

18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

For anyone who is truly penitent, no matter how shameful his transgressions may have been, there is no reason to despair   as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.   “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson,

though they are red like crimson,

so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

they shall become like wool.

I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud

and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.

Yet we have a role in this forgiveness  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

On the other hand, there is no excuse for being indifferent, as if the subject of the unpardonable sin is of no concern to the average church member.

The blasphemy against the Spirit is the result of gradual progress in sin.

Grieving the Spirit (), 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
