When You Pray - Part 3

Kidz World Today - Children’s Church
Matthew 6:5–13 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
When You Pray
Last Week we looked at the Three Rules For Prayer in Matthew 6:6-8
1. Do not use empty repetition
2. Do not speak much
3. Trust God
Today we are going to look at the Model Prayer
The Model Prayer
Luke 11:1–2 NKJV
1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” 2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
This prayer was given to show the disciples how to pray
How they should go about praying, not the words they should pray.
In This Manner
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
The Lord's prayer is a model prayer that is to be prayed through.
It is "after this manner," in this way, like this, that we are pray.
Jesus was teaching the disciples how to pray.
He was giving words, phrases, thoughts that are to be the points of our prayer.
There is Surrender and Acknowledgment
Matthew 6:9 AMP
9 Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
In verse 9
When you genuinely mean "Father," you are surrendering to God.
You are denying self-sufficiency,
You are surrendering yourself to God - the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. •
And acknowledging him to be your own Father.
You are surrendering your independency and accepting God's family.
Father In Heaven
Now you have moved into the spiritual world!
You now set your mind and heart on spiritual things!
Things like - The Kingdom of God and His righteousness and things of the spiritual world.
Ephesians 1:3 NLT
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Hallowed be Your name.
God’s name is holy, set apart, different from all other names.
There is none but you...you and you alone.
You are above, before, and over all God you have done everything;
You have made the world and given life to it.
I owe my very life to you God.
The first thing prayer should do is praise and glorify God.
That is the point Jesus is making in the words... • "Our Father...
• which art in heaven...
• hallowed be thy name."
There is Request and Plea
Matthew 6:10–13 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
The Kingdom Of God
"Father, let your kingdom come right here on this earth.
Let Christ rule and reign in the hearts and the lives of all.
Send Him, His kingdom, His sovereignty right now.
After This Manner
Jesus gives us this model - because it is It is the very thing for which God longs for.
God longs for the day when He will rule and reign in the hearts of all men, perfectly—
the day when all men will willingly submit and serve Him—
the day when all thoughts, all words, all behavior will be exactly what they should be.
Your Kingdom Come
Matthew 3:2 NKJV
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
Matthew 4:17 NKJV
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 5:3 NKJV
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10 NKJV
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Romans 14:17 NKJV
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
God's kingdom is available. God's kingdom is desperately needed on earth right now.
So much just keeps us struggling
So much rebellion, wickedness, evil, enmity, bitterness, hatred, murder, injustice.
God's rule and reign are needed now.
We need to understand the urgency to pray and to pray consistently, "Thy kingdom come," Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven
and to live as if God's kingdom had already come. When You Pray
