Motherhood is far more valuable and important than most people realize, moms play a huge role in shaping society, impacting future generations, and their work is at the heart of the mission and ministry of the Christian Church.
The work of Mothers is often overlooked, under valued, and often taken for granted - want to celebrate and honor the good work of Mom’s today…
This morning I’ve asked Andrea if she could tell us a little bit about being a mom today...
ANDREA TESTIMONY
Mom’s
__
There is no higher calling than to be used by God to shape the soul of another human being with the good news in Jesus Christ - and God uses mothers to do just that.
I wan’t to remind the moms here today, and the women who are like moms to many in our church family, the greatest thing we can provide for our children, the one thing that will have the greatest positive impact in their lives - is genuine faith in Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:3–7 ESV
I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
1 Timothy 1:3–7 ESV
As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.
This is a beautiful picture of faith being passed down from generation to generation = and in this case it is through the mothers - Timothy’s grandmother and mother that are described as having faith dwelling in them.... Paul says, “the sincere faith I see in you timothy… ‘dwelt in’
“Your Sincere faith, a faith that first dwelt in....” ...the seed of faith in Timothy’s life was planted by mothers with genuine faith in Christ.

2Timothy 1:3

Sincere faith
The greatest thing a mom can offer her family is her own genuine faith in Jesus, God’s Spirit at work in her life!
Sincere faith
Mom’s work hard to provide things for their families and children – mom’s take courses, read books, consult with other moms, search the internet – some mom’s even go back to school to increase their capacity to provide for their families… Yet how many moms see their progress in genuine faith as something essential for motherhood?
There are tons of workshops and books and helpful bits of advice about parenting but I want you to know this morning that Being a truly successful mom does not really depend on having awesome mothering skills and techniques…
Being a truly successful Mom Begins with and depends on a sincere and genuine faith in Jesus - Not on how to’s and parenting techniques
In fact, Everything you need to be the Mom God has called you to be Begins with and depends on a sincere and genuine faith in Jesus far more than on how to’s and parenting techniques.
The greatest thing a mom can offer her family is her own genuine faith in Jesus, God’s Spirit at work in her life!
God never calls you to a task without giving you what you need to do it. God never sends you without going with you.

task that without Jesus it is impossible
As a mom you carry a huge weight of responsibility that you were never meant to carry alone. was never meant to be all on your shoulders. - you can’t change hearts and minds = without Jesus it is impossible

2 Timothy 1:6–7 ESV
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
GOD GIVES! In every passage we’ve looked at over the last few weeks – God is the giver
God is always giving of himself – he is fundamentally a giver and we are always receivers - He gives – by faith we receive -
There was a little kid who wanted to buy his mom a mothers day gift. So he says to his mom, Can I have 20 bucks? Where else is he going to get the resources to purchase a gift? No one expects a young child to have the resources himself – and God doesn’t expect you or I to have the resources in and of ourselves to do what he has called us to do… which includes being a mom!
So By his Spirit God gives to those who put their faith in Jesus…what they need to fulfull their calling…
Spiritual gifts - to fulfill your calling (includes family, church, community)
2 Timothy 1:8–9 ESV
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,
Mom - God has gifted you - you have unique gifts and abilities that he’s given you to fulfill your calling -
Power - tired, many things unable to do
Love - sacrificial (me second - controlling of your kids to make life more convenient and less embarrassing to you. It is so easy for your children to become the primary source of love and affection and for your emotions to be tied to the behavior of your children)
Self-Control - angry - want to run away from the responsibility
Jesus is your source of these things… he doesn’t expect you to have them yourself - he gives them by his Spirit...
Mom the best thing you can do for your family is to pursue the faith, and draw on God’s grace. Put down the how to manual for a while and pick up a bible. Turn off Facebook messenger and take some time to pray. Don’t just talk about parenting with the other moms, ask each other ‘what is God doing in your life’? Don’t avoid your church family but find a way to stay connected to God’s people.
If your life is too full to harried to burdened to even begin pursuing the faith - THEN I guarantee you trying to do things you were never meant to do! Even if you could do everything right - there are things that are way beyond you
to create heart change.
You see parenting is a bit like farming - all you can do is cultivate - you can’t make your kids grow, you can’t change their hearts, you can’t control all the circumstances of their lives - you can’t make them believe - God has tasked parents with many things, but nowhere in his word has he tasked you with the responsibility to create character or produce faith in the heart of your child.
When it comes to raising children you’re not dealing just with education and behavior, you need more than parenting how to’s and techniques.
You need Jesus because your kids have a heart condition that causes all kinds of problems. The same problem you have and I have - We are all born with rebellious, foolish, selfish hearts that love sin more than we love God. And the only solution is found in God’s love and grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
You’re not Jesus, You are simply a tool in God’s hands - being used to minister to the lost hearts of your children...
As a mom you’re not dealing just with behavior, but a heart condition that causes all kinds of bad behavior. your job is to keep pointing them to Jesus - Jesus saves, Jesus protects, Jesus empowers, Jesus forgives, Jesus changes hearts and lives....
your job is to keep pointing them to Jesus - Jesus saves, Jesus protects, Jesus empowers, Jesus forgives, Jesus changes hearts and lives....
The reason why so many mom’s lives are harried and burdened
a condition that causes bad behavior.your job is to keep pointing them to Jesus - Jesus saves, Jesus protects, Jesus empowers, Jesus forgives, Jesus changes hearts and lives....
your job is to keep pointing them to Jesus - Jesus saves, Jesus protects, Jesus empowers, Jesus forgives, Jesus changes hearts and lives....
Parenting is not primarily about control or good behavior as is is about ministering to the hearts of your children -
Keep talking about Jesus! Not just what he has done but what he is doing in your life?
-
and live it out with your family.
One of the reasons you can’t stop for a moment
Do they hear you talking about Jesus? Not just what he has done but what he is doing in your life?
Let your kids see you reading your bible, praying and seeking his will?
Keep submitting to God’s instruction in your own life? And be open about your own struggles and need for God’s help.
Ask for forgiveness when you are in the wrong and keep forgiving when you’e been sinned against.
Do they see you seeking forgiveness for your own sins and forgiving others who have sinned against you?
Keep sharing what you’ve learned from God’s word And take joy in telling his story?

Testimony of Jesus … the Gospel (Good News)
2 Timothy 1:8–9 ESV

Follow the Pattern of Sound Teaching … Gospel Shaped Living
2 Timothy 1:13 ESV
Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:14 ESV
By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
Love for God’s Word
2 Timothy 3:14–17 ESV
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
1 Timothy 3 ESV
The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
2 Tim 3:
We need LAW - we all need to live God’s way - But LAW is not enough
“ Make you Wise for Salvation’ - expose our broken hearts and point us to God’s grace in Jesus Christ
