Mothers Day
Welcome to all the mothers, and happy mothers day
this is your special day to be celebrated
In thinking how I would approach mothers day I begin to think of my own mom, and my own wife then I thought lets not lol
seriously though for this mothers day I wanted us to do more of a self check as a mother
In thinking about self check most of us would run to the concordance of our Bibles, and look for the passages that talk about mothers, we would find little to none and how to be a mother
I know what you are thinking that this will be a short sermon and it may
So we start in the beginning
Genesis 2:18–22 NASB95
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
I want us to focus on vs 20
Genesis 2:20 NASB95
20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
The whole purpose of God bringing the animals to Adam was to find a suitable helper for him, and God didn’t find one so He made one
God and Adam were looking for a suitable help and so God made one
on this mothers day as we look to a check up for the moms
you are made to be suitable helpers
You were not made to be the leaders of your houses, you were made to be suitable helpers for the leaders of your house
I do not believe that means maids, or doers of everything
But to be a suitable helper
to come along side and work together and help
Mom’s you were not created to raise the children, you were created to help raise the children
It took Adam and Eve to raise those children, not just Adam and not just Eve
To raise kids today it takes a Dad and a Mom, it does not work if there is only one doing everything, moms help raise your kids, stop doing it all by yourself if you are and if you are doing nothing then start helping
I know that was going to step on toes, but I think as believers we need to at times do a self check and this is part of the self check
Are you being a suitable helper to your husband in raising your kids?
Proverbs 31:10–27 NASB95
10 An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. 11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. 13 She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight. 14 She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. 15 She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens. 16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong. 18 She senses that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out at night. 19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands grasp the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor, And she stretches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, For all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies belts to the tradesmen. 25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future. 26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. 27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Proverbs 31:10 NASB95
10 An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.
vs 10 - you moms that adhere to scripture, and that are suitable helpers, and run after God are rare it says, and worth more than you will every know!
Proverbs 31:12 NASB95
12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
vs 12 - moms, you need to be doing good to your husbands, and not evil, when you are angry with your husbands or your children, do not repay evil for evil, but do good for them
Proverbs 31:13–17 NASB95
13 She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight. 14 She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. 15 She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens. 16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong.
vs 13-17 moms are you working to provide for your families, are you helping your husband provide for you families, do think strictly in the sense of bringing in the bacon, but are you helping your husband be a good steward of your families finances, are you protecting and preparing your family, are you willing to work to provide for your family
Proverbs 31:21 NASB95
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
vs 21 mom not only should you provide for your family but are you caring for them, and moms we are grateful that you do take care of us
Proverbs 31:26 NASB95
26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
vs 26 mom maybe the most important part of these part of scripture, but are you teaching your family, I have heard one of the most important things as a parent you can do, and it's fitting for mothers day, but let your children and even your husband catch you reading your Bible, as we are doing a self check, think of when you read your Bible, are you able to be caught?
if you are not reading your Bible then i would suggest you start, because you and I know raising kids is not easy and you need a manual as you raise them, you also want to pass on to your children as their mother the need and desire for reading the scripture
Moms I want to encourage you, continue to seek the lord as you help and raise your families, I also want to encourage you in your marriage to your husbands
I do have to credit this next piece of advice from a sermon I heard a while back
Ephesians 5:33 NASB95
33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
In the previous verses we read all about the husbands, and what they are to do, moms this verse deals with what you are to be doing
We understand that husbands are to love your wives, but for some reason Paul does not say to the wives they are to love their husbands
Don't you find that interesting moms?
In the sermon the pastor goes on to answer this question
moms it is in your nature to love your husband, or it is easy for you to love them because that is in your nature
It does however to say that you are to respect your husbands, would it be because respect is difficult for you and lets face it that sometimes husbands are hard to respect, but moms, part of teaching our kids is loving and respecting your husbands
closing
moms, we celebrate you, we thank you for all the hard work you do, I want to challenge you as you read scripture to find things for moms
Moms we want to pray for you as your children and your husbands
I want challenge you moms to continue to run after the Lord, continue to seek the Lord in all you do
The band can come forward
the altar is open
maybe you need to join this local church and become a member
maybe you need to spend sometime in prayer
maybe you are here and you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, I want you invite you to the front and we will have people down front to talk with you and pray with you
