INTRO
Don’t you love springtime?
Warm and sunny, nice breeze, cookouts, flowers, blossomed trees…it’s awesome!
With all the good that comes with it, there are a few negatives...
How many of you like the pollen?!
Doesn’t matter how nice your car is, it looks dirty fast!
Anyone with sinuses?
How many times in on day can someone have to blow their nose?! Get out the neti pot!
Oh, and the birds come out!
Aren’t they beautiful?
Oh, and the birds come out!
Aren’t they beautiful?
I love sitting on our back deck or in the house with the windows open and hearing the birds sing while I study.
Doesn’t matter how nice your car is, when birds decide to aim for it, your car still gets dirty!
…isn’t that right, Gabe?!
The kids love playing outside too!
Then, it rains, and the yard gets muddy!
Take your shoes off!
Then we remember, it’s spring cleaning!
Doesn’t matter how nice your house is or if you have done your spring cleaning, it still has to be cleaned…daily.
Look, we try to simplify in the Cole house.
We sold Max to a breeder on a farm…yah, I know it’s wrong to sell your kids’ 130lb dog, but we had to.
He’s becoming a poppa, so he’s happy.
We got this robo vaccum last year, and having a robot around has been nice!
We had like 15 of our GloClean employees over in the New Year, and we joked that we were replacing them with robots!
No matter how nice your house is or how much you try to simplify, your house still has to be cleaned!
CAN I GET A WITNESS?!
Our heart is no different.
You may leave from assembling with your church feeling like your heart is full of Christ and His Word…but you will still need to clean it daily.
A pure heart is a lifestyle and pursuit, not something you achieve.
The good news is that our heart can be clean.
Jesus said blessed are the pure in heart…speaking of our soul and desires, not our physical heart.
So, what is a pure heart?
Singleness of heart
THREE DESCRIPTIONS OF A PURE HEART
A PURE HEART IS PURGED
ILL—even expensive cars need washed and clothes need ironed and washed
ILL—even in nice homes, dishes have to be washed and trash has to be taken out.
Jesus justifies, forgives, and cleanses.
Jesus not only wants us “declared righteous”
Not only can Jesus “declare us righteous,” but also, he can cleanse and make us righteous if we will come to Him with true confession.
Confess: ὁμολογῶμεν, (homologomen)
You can be cleansed from that thing you have that you never would!
Is a pure heart cleansed, but a pure heart is undivided.
A PURE HEART IS UNDIVIDED
Singleness of heart
Single: ἁπλοῦς (haplous) sincere, without guile
ἁπλοῦς: haplous: sincere, without guile
Luke 12:
Luke 12:21-
A PURE HEART IS SURE
Luke 12:21-3
Romans 14:22
That is, the Christian who engages in practices with a doubtful mind is condemning himself and those practices by his very attitude.
Whatever we do that is not of faith is sin, for the Christian lives by faith.
“Faith comes by … the Word of God,” says Rom. 10:17 (NKJV); so anything I do that I cannot back up by the Word of God is sin, because I cannot do it by faith.
“If it’s doubtful, it’s dirty!” is a good policy to follow.
No one would drink milk or water that possibly was contaminated; nor would we accept food that might possibly be poisoned.
Yet many Christians carelessly engage in practices that even the world questions.
They never face the fact that whatever is doubtful is not of faith, and therefore is sin.
A PURE HEART SEES GOD
Let me illustrate with a couple pictures.
