Genesis 2:18–24 ESV
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
gen. 2:
James:
Matthew 5:13–16 ESV
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

1. Princess Bride lines….. “Mawwiage. Mawwiage is wat bwings us togeder today. Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam wifin a dweam… And wuv, twue wuv, will fowwow you foweva… So tweasure your wuv—"
You have been individuals following Christ and you will continue to maintain your own personal relationship with Christ. However, there will be a unique dynamic. Today you two will become one. You will begin to understand and work out what God meant when He said of the Eve that she was a helper fit for Adam
2. Thanksgiving for occasion to God, the family’s, and friend.
Eph. 5:21
Ephesians 5:21–33 ESV
21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
3. >>PRAY<<
Your marriage is to picture the Gospel
4. Let us consider…How marriage pictures the gospel by answering two questions? What you are doing and why does it matter?
a. The what…You are becoming one flesh. Thereby demonstrating how a man and a woman uniquely fit together physically, emotionally, and spiritually by God’s design.
Finally, a word of encouragement.
Colossians 3:12–17 ESV
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
b. The why…This is all for the God’s glorious gospel purposes.
Col. 3
c. You will do this well to the degree that you allow Christ to rule your heart.
>> You will remember that in

You have been individuals following Christ and you will continue to maintain your own personal relationship with Christ. However, from today forward, there will be a unique dynamic in your lives. Today you two will become one. And in your oneness you are to show forth God’s grand design demonstrating how a man and a woman fit together.
1. Jon and Erica you are a perfect fit because designed it so. You are man and woman and God has given men and women distinct roles and responsibilities that compliment each other perfectly. Today you embark on the adventure of lifetime where you will learn to dance together. Jon, you must learn to lead in this dance, but never by placing your wife behind you, but by following the example of Christ Jesus who will one day present His own bride, the church, in all her radiance and glory.

Paul is suggesting something radical, and he knows it! But he cannot shy away from the truth the Holy Spirit is revealing through him. From its very founding, the institution of marriage was designed to image forth the relationship that Jesus Christ has with the people of God, the Church. The man leads, loves, and serves his wife because that is how Christ gives himself to his bride. And the wife respects, submits to, and helps her husband, because that is how the Church of God follows the risen Lord Jesus.
Finally, a word of encouragement.

5. Rings and vows: John, Erica I believe you have prepared your own marriage vows. Is that correct?............And you also have rings to exchange that will forever serve as a symbol these vows.
a. ***Best man passes rings to the Pastor.
i. John and Erica, as you make this solemn vow before God and your family and friends, remember that these rings are to serve you as a reminder of your vow to each other. A vow that should never be broken and if you will follow closely in the footsteps of Christ Jesus and daily live in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit, then you will have all the resources of heaven to aid and strengthen you in this holy commitment.
b. ***Give small ring to John…He says his vow.
c. ***Give large ring to Erica…She says her vow.
Now John and Erica I charge you both to glorify God in the keeping of your vows.
And to everyone gathered here today, you will play unique role in this marriage. You are the earthly witnesses and as such I call on you to pray from John and Erica and as the years go by, love them well by sharing the wisdom God has given you as it relates to life and marriage.
***Presentation and Kiss
Forasmuch as JON and ERICA have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this congregation, and in so doing have given and pledged their vows to each other, and have declared the same by the giving and receiving of a ring, I pronounce them man and wife together, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.[1]r.
Jon, you may now kiss your bride!
