The Peace of Christ
While the word for peace in is not shalom, the word eirene carries a similar meaning.
A. The Greek Concept of eirḗnē.
For the Greeks eirḗnē primarily denotes a state, not a relationship or attitude.
It is the opposite of pólemos (“war”).
It is linked with treaties of peace or the conclusion of peace.
It is also the opposite of disturbance.
In a negative sense, it may denote a peaceful attitude, i.e., the absence of hostile feelings.
In the age of Augustus it carries echoes of redemption, but also implies in everyday reality the legal security of the pax Romana.
According to Hubach, when a church operates without all its members, it becomes disabled itself and is not in a state of peace.
Our purpose in disability ministry is to be peacemakers who
have peace with God through Christ and invite others (inc.
disabled) to have that peace;
call the Body of Christ to oneness with all its members;
bring restoration and healing to families who are struggling with the effects of disability; and
restore a society that is unraveling and affects the lives of the disabled.
