Intro

The SBC adopted a comprehensive statement of faith in 1925.

In the 60’s their was controversy over the nature and authority of scripture and it was revised. However the committee wanted to make sure everyone knew that they were not adding or taking away from the 1925 version, although they did add and reworked some of the language.

In 1969 this was again confirmed and a motion was put forth to encourage SBC’s to use this as a guide in employment, content and policy.

In 1998 it was revised to include “Article 18: The family”. in the very next year a motion was brought forth to review, and bring to the convention recommendations the following year.

Looking back to the original statement of 1925, Herschel Hobbs remarked “ This statement served in large measure to anchor Southern Baptists to their traditional theological moorings for a generation”.

Its hard to read this book and not be biased as my whole life I have been part of the SBC, even before becoming a member. My belief’s have aligned to this statement.
