In Mark chapter 8, we see that the disciples have a moment of insight into the purpose and identity of Jesus, Peter declares, “You are the Christ!” After a brief moment of revelation, Peter’s eschatology, and that of many of the disciples is challenged as Christ then goes on to reveal that He must suffer much and be killed. The ideal of a Savior from Rome is cut off. Later, the differences between the interests of man and the interests of the Lord are represented in stark contrast to one another. This contrast is overcome potentially with great cost when one desires the Lord’s ways above their own.
