True Vine

Introduction: Vine in my yard, grows up into the trees. I cut it off last year, and i cannot pull it out of the trees. I hang on it, i had Trent pull on it with me, we both hung on it and this vine will not come out of the tree. There is a tall slender vine, hanging in my back yard, cut off, waiting to be thrown into the fire pit, bu it won’t let go!
Find the perfect seed. Chip and Joanna Gaines unveiled their own home space recently and they have a chicken coop, and a garden house. The Garden house has rows and rows of seed in jars ready to be planted. But at this point, it is just seed. Dry seed. The lack of soil, nutrients, water and sun keep the seed seed. What does it take to make a beautiful flower from those seeds? All those ingredients mentioned. Lets be careful here: Jesus spoke to us about the seed that lands by the wayside, birds carry it away, on stoney ground where there is no root, and the seed that falls among thorns and is quickly chocked.
Here the scripture today. Here the Lord’s passion for you.
Do not read the scripture here with fire and brimstone in your heart, read it with the tender compassion our Lord sought you.
Young Christian and those whose soil wayside, stoney or full of thorns get the order backwards
They begin with 7b. ask what you desire and it shall be done for you
This is the soil Jesus warned about. No depth
We want what we want first, then we’ll consider performance, do, be.
But as we will discover there is a cost to abundant life-what is abundant life?
When I grab hold of that vine in my back yard it is solid, it is near 2” thick at the base. It is neither tender, not brittle. When i look up to see where it is caught, it disguises itself. It looks like all the other branches from all the trees interwoven. I cant tell exactly where it begins and ends.
Just like the vine Jesus discusses, the vine and all its roots go back so far and are so deep, maybe even so common to us, we miss the strength, fortitude, integrity and interwoven His vine is in all of history.
the Spirit of God hovered over the deep
John said, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God
From Genesis to Jesus the vine is woven throughout history. The vine grew in the garden, it remained in the depths of the ocean as Noah hid in the arc. It moved into Egypt with Joseph, and out to Caanan with Moses and Joshua. The vine grew at times and at was pruned back barely being seen, even withering. Through out the time of the Kings the vine was trampled, chopped on, pushed out and burned. The vine was rarely watered, hardly produced fruit. There was a period in the history of the vine that the fruit said to the vine, we can sustain ourselves without you, and the fruit separated itself from the vine! But not all the fruit. So the vine lay quiet and went underground for about 400 years.
Psalm 80:8–19 NKJV
You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it. You prepared room for it, And caused it to take deep root, And it filled the land. The hills were covered with its shadow, And the mighty cedars with its boughs. She sent out her boughs to the Sea, And her branches to the River. Why have You broken down her hedges, So that all who pass by the way pluck her fruit? The boar out of the woods uproots it, And the wild beast of the field devours it. Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; Look down from heaven and see, And visit this vine And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, And the branch that You made strong for Yourself. It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Psalm 80:8-
Isaiah 5:1–7 NKJV
Now let me sing to my Well-beloved A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill. He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes. “And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes? And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it.” For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.
isaiah 5:1-
What fruit are you producing: good kingdom fruit, sour gapes? Is your field fertile, is your harvest full, or, is it time for a real pruning? What should God cut off from your habits, practices, places?
The good news is the vine didn’t stay dormant. It was pruned by the vine dresser, and like a new spring day, a day like today...
it burst forth, like spring, all things became new and good news filled the air. The vine was alive, it was healing, it was salvation, it was a breath of fresh air.
The deceiver, he hates what the vine represents, he planned to chop it down, pull it from the roots, burn it up and remove all traces all its heritage. He thought in times past he held the heart of man. He had them chase evil and thought it was good. He deceived Kings, and taught them to worship false gods, Baal and Ashoreth. He plotted, he schemed, he used man and beast, angel and demon, the past, the present the future, all he could garner, all he could muster. And it happened. He had that vine crucified. He had that vine dead, he had the vine planted in the ground and a stone rolled in front.
But that vine had roots that ran deeper than any man can see, any demon could recognize. That vine has a charisma, a power source, a future, UP FROM THE GRAVE HE AROSE, WITH A MIGHT TRIUMPH O’ER HIS FOES. HE AROSE THE VICTOR FROM THE DARK DOMAIN, AND HE LIVES FOR EVER WITH HIS SAINTS TO REIGN...
Now Jesus, with His disciples at hand, speaks in clear language to them.
I am the true vine
My Father is the vine dresser
You are the branches
You are in me through
When you abide in me (Christ) you are fruitful
The fruit cannot make more fruit when it is detached from the vine
If you are a branch not producing fruit, you will be pruned and wither. Withered branches are thrown into the fire
Matthew records the interpretation of Jesus and the seed:
Matthew 13:19–23 NKJV
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
Matthew 13:
To do the will of the Father is what? Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and you neighbor as yourself. How are you doing?
God prune me here.
Are you loving your enemy?
God prune me here
Do you hold a grudge that isn’t settled? Have you left your gift on the altar and settled that account?
God prune me here
Are you withholding forgiveness? You will be forgiven as you forgive.
God prune me here
Have you the gifts of the Spirit, gentleness, patience, self control
God prune me here
Are you perfect in Love as your heavenly Father is perfect in love?
God prune me here
If you remain, and are attached to the vine, then you can ask, and he will do it. He will do for you what i have recited: Make you pure in heart.
But know this, to remain in the vine means pruning by the vinedresser that better fruit will be produced
When fruit is produced, the Father is glorified
When the Father is glorified, you are truly a disciple of Christ
Pass the twine to all
Once the twine is passed ask the congregation to affirm these values:
The vinedresser desires fruit: the fruit of the Spirit for one.
Galatians
Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
**Will be you be a fruitful people say “WE WILL”
The vinedresser doesn’t desire poor tasteless fruit, but succulent fruit. To have the very best fruit, he will prune us who are fruitful to get the best fruit.
**Will you allow God to use you as He sees fit and remain faithful to His leading? Answer “WE WILL:
**Will you go one step further? Will you ask the vinedresser to allow you to bear much fruit? **Ask with me now, God will you help us.” God will you help us?
Prayer
Here this; discipleship is never realized, never finished. Just as faith leads to faith, love to more love, light o more light, so discipleship to an ever deeper learning, yearning for more of God.
This is Holiness, this is the sanctified life. God in God he goes with you.
