Romans Part 7

To refresh last week we saw that keeping the law does not get you to heaven. So no matter how many great things that you do, you will not get to heaven accept through faith.
God’s Riches At Christ Expense
Religion is mans attempt to reconcile himself with God. Man can not reconcile himself with God.
Romans 5:1–2 NKJV
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Therefore links what the upcoming passage/statements to those that preceded.
So he is saying since we have been justified by faith then this is what we have. Peace with God.
No what is peace with God? It is different than the peace we have when the house is quiet because all the kids or grandchildren are out.
This is peace with God. Because of our justification by faith we don’t have to worry about the wrath of God because we are no longer under that wrath.
Remember last week I told you that you can not be good enough to get to heaven.
You can not do enough good things to make it to heaven.
It doesnt matter if you gave a million dollars to a homeless shelter if you don’t have grace it might have been a nice thing to do but it doesnt get you a seat in heaven.
One thing we need to remember is that even though our works do not get us to heaven people should see our faith through the works we do.
Sometimes that may be just the smile that is on your face when you walk in to work everyday. People see that then start asking questions. Why is there a smile always on your face?
Eph 2:7-9 says this.
Ephesians 2:7–9 NKJV
that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
If you have accepted God’s Riches At Christ Expense then you can not boast in your works.
Romans 5:3–5 NKJV
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Not only do we stand and rejoice in hope of the Glory of God but we also glory in tribulations.
Huh? Is Paul crazy here? I think he may have been stoned one to many times.
Nope. You know you may have been told that if you become a Christian life is going to be rosy. That you will never go through hard things, that you will be wealthy, healthy, and successful (as the world measures success).
But Paul here just says something totally different. He says that we glory in tribulation.
You are going through a bad time right now what should you do? Say thank you Lord! Thank you that I have been chosen to go through this tribulation.
You are probably sitting there saying pastor you are crazy. I want you to say only things that are positive and feel good.
I can’t!
A person said one time. If the devil is not trying to take you down then you might want to check your walk with the Lord.
Church, we live in a fallen world. Paul himself went through tribulation.
