Where is the Church Today?

The Study Guide cites several surveys indicating that only around half of the churches surveyed said that a majority of the churches surveyed indicted that they had not begun or had just begin the process of making their churches more inclusive to those with disabilities
How do you think we are doing at CBC?

The illusion of the church as a place full of beautiful people who have it all together flies in the face of the notion that the Church is and is called to be a broken and suffering body in need of the strength of God.
The illusion of the church as a place full of beautiful people who have it all together flies in the face of the notion that the Church is and is called to be a broken and suffering body in need of the strength of God.
Dr. Beates says, “No one “makes it” alone. We are in fact inter-dependent upon God and one another. Disability helps us see that we are all broken and all part of the same Body, needing to give and receive from one another.”
With these verses and the quote from Dr. Beates, why would we want to embrace people who are suffering and disabled?
Because by embracing those who are weak and embracing our own weakness, we embrace the power of God for when we are weak, he is strong.
Acts 2:42–47 NASB95
They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

What are the four key words Joni uses and what would our church look like if we were to practice these fully?
