God’s Love: Adopted Children

Review of 1 John: Knowing God/Having a relationship with God, How to Know God
Chapter 1, Knowing God trough receiving the gospel
Chapter 2, how you know you can know God
Here in Chapter 3, why it is possible to Know God.
Knowing God is not a matter of trying harder, you have to be born again and adopted into His family.
Read (NASB)
1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
John continues his encouragement to the people by reassuring them that they are Children of God. He Just finished instructing them to not love the world and then warns them of the anti-christ. He transitions back to encouraging them by stating in 2:28 to abide in Christ.
John then reveals to use why knowing God is possible, Through: The Love of God, It is by God’s Love that he has given us that we would know Him.
The Love of God
It is by God’s Love that he has given us that we would know Him.
The Love of God
the Deep Love of God
(Verse 1) “how great a love…, that we would be called children of God;”
John is saying to the people, “imagine this, know this,… that God loves you so much...
YOU: a sinner, hate God, disobey, run away, you don’t love God, you’d rather spend time doing something else...
GOD: But in His GREAT love would still call you His child; to care for, to protect, to love, to have.
That is a great love! WE must understand the nature of man and God to see the greatness of this love
God is holy - set apart
We are rebels, disobedient, dysfunctional, sin-driven, incapable, we don’t care about God.
Yet God wants to save us, he wants a relationship with us, and he makes this possible by His Love.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His conly begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Trans: Does God not love the whole world? Common Grace vs. Special Grace
Love that makes us Children of God
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

A fathers love: it is explicit to use that the have parents love their children is different how they love other people.

Yes, parents are not prefect but morally we can judge that bad parents are un-natural the way God intended it to be.
But Parents Love their children deeply, to the point of sacrificing , giving, teaching, paying for school, protecting, etc to the point of death.
God love is great that he doesn’t just save us but he saves us in to His family. He adopts us.

Cinderella, K-Drama,… Well it’s just adoption… everyone knows that parents love their actually child more...
God gave His Son to die for His adopted children.
Verse 1 - it was “given” to us, this is God’s initiative
2. Love that changes u
Love that changes You
This love should change you because this love is special not common.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
“But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? You observe days and months and seasons and years!”
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
But Pastor Paul… I already know these things, I know this and that...
John does not simply want us to know but the command is to “see”
“see” that “we are” children of God
You may know but have you experienced - fully knowing come with experience.
Hug of Father Example.
Do you know God or do you just know of God?
Do you know Him?
