Independently Depending On God

God has historically defied our reasoning and logic when it comes to who and what he uses to bring deliverance to his people. He often ignores our customs, expectations and plans that we create in effort that His will be done. states “she girds herself with strength and makes her arms strong”. She is prepared, so she girds herself up accordingly. Her arms are strong for the task. A woman that exemplifies this strength is Deborah. Elected by God to lead Isreal we are introduced to her leadership. This prophetess becomes successful at war and is celebrated in song. During this period of history, the people of Israel were under severe oppression. Deborah calls on Barak who surprisingly is reluctant to carry out this task of war. His apprehension is warranted seeing as this army that he is going up against is far more superior than what Israel had at the time, nonetheless never underestimate the faith of a Godly woman. We have reduced the role of a woman in our society that has caused her to perform equal jobs at less pay, serve in leadership positions within the secular world and be oppressed in the home and even the church. The kingdom woman is is so important to the body of Christ and to the world. God created her to be the bearer of life, the nurturer of mankind, and the support system to the greatest people on earth.

She is Strong

She “girds” herself, she armors herself with strength a disposition of boldness that prepares her for the most daunting task. When we think about Deborah she was prepared for this task, she positioned herself and Israel around people and with people that would ensure they were well taken care of.
She is strong because she trust in God. “Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you”. She says as she commands Barak to engage in war.
Every man needs a strong woman by his side. He may not admit it but he definitely knows he needs it. Once Barak is summoned he even says unto her “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.
Of course she obliges, Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She’s amused by the future because she understands where her strength comes from.

She is Encouraging

Understand the recipe for removing reluctance from a man is encouragement. Deborah becomes the cheerleader that Barak needs in effort to win this war.
And Deborah said to Barak, Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the Lord go out before you? So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him.
She does not take credit, nonetheless she prophesies earlier in the chapter that although God would use Barak as a tool, he would not receive credit for this victory.
The bible said that God routed Sisera and all his army before Barak and not a man was left.
Brothers it is a good thing to have a good sister by your side. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.

My Sister, It is In You!

Strength and dignity are her clothing. She is not valued by her outward appearance but the beauty within that God has blessed her with.
Your adornment must not be merely external — braiding the hair and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
We live in society in which the status of a woman is being valued at the expense of physical attributes, nonetheless Peter as well as this story about Deborah exemplifies the power within the Kingdom Woman.
For every Deborah directing traffic there’s a Jael on the other side finishing up the job for her dear sister. Sisera thought he had avoided death, nonetheless God has some other women to finish the job at this time!
Jael takes Sisera in, and comforts him just enough to get him relaxed. He ask for water she does one better and blesses him with Milk, calms his anxiety by telling him she would cover for him, just to get him at ease to finish the job that God had desired.
But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died.
Isn’t it a blessing when you are pursuing something that God has already taken care of. As Barak is pursuing it was another woman just as Deborah had prophesied that had finished the task!
We do not have any control over who God uses to carry out a task. If it was up to us, we probably would not have used Mary to carry Jesus. If it was up to us we probably would not have birthed a nation through the woman of a woman named Sarah that was approaching her 10th decade. On the outside society might see a prostitute in Rahab but God sees salvation. On the outside society might see a woman as a subservient woman that needs to stay in her place, but God sees deliverance for his people. Martin needed a Coretta, Malcolm needed a Betty, because when the world treats the man as less that he needs a woman to say Get Up, and finish was God has instructed you to do.
