Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
Christians sins have been forgiven
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So when we stand before God to be ruled guilty or pardoned…
we can point to Jesus
our lives must point to Jesus
maybe not a lot of evidence & not all perfect but there is evidence in our lives that we have surrendered our lives over to Jesus
Well done my good & faithful servant

Once we have been accepted into heaven
the fruit of our lives will determine our stay while in heaven
show me your fruit
- whether we fulfilled our role in the Great Commission.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
- how victorious we were over sin.
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

SO that is why Paul said:
Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
Because of v. 12 he said...
For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.

No, we are not accountable to anyone but God but...
WE ARE Prone to wander

So the Word says...
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
we have less days now than we have had before...
SO GATHER TOGETHER
Not just church but for accountability
not to one another but helping one another stay accountable before God with our lives
Charles Colson— Though I know intellectually how vulnerable I am to pride and power, I am the last one to know when I succumb to thier sudduction. That’s why spiritual Lone Rangers are so dangerous — and why we must depend upon trusted brothers and sisters who love us enough to tell us the truth.

They know that they are going to be accountable before God yet they don’t think that they need any help from brothers and sisters.
They run on their own
often times believing false doctrine
or creating a following of their own
not one after God
end up being swallowed by pride or distractions...
because we need to gather regularly for accountability
Jesus left the 99 for the one who wandered but the lone ranger didn’t wander but chose to go out on their own...
and on their own they will be
God will not force a lone ranger to join the herd of sheep
And God’s people are not able to either.
we can reach out
we can speak truth
BUT it will not be until they make a choice to step into the family of God and live this life together
So I mentioned that lone rangers leave the flock but some just wander....
ACCOUNTABILITY IS NECESSARY BECAUSE LIKE SHEEP WE ARE PRONE TO WANDER
we protect our own comfort zones
avoid dealing with certain issues that are important to becoming obedient Christians (which is what we will be held accountable for towards God
So what happens when a brother or sister is going astray?
We are called to lovingly keep them accountable to God
(not to us because we are owed nothing from this life)
But to God we owe it all
That’s why I call on those who abuse the tongue...
lies, abuse, cursings
That’s why I call on sin
justified in our own mind but your not the judge
just a look- lust - heart is not where it needs to be
sin of not parenting well
sin of not being a spouse that is working with their partner in the right way
sin of not having handling the responsibility of authority well- abusing power - self gain
sin of not submitting to authority
police/government
parents
bosses
work as unto the Lord
Sin of not filling your calling
share Gospel
love others
forgiving others
serving Christ
laying it all down
But when we get personal with these words and works of accountability...
it proposes an opportunity to grow in our faith… THE ULTIMATE GOAL
some grow...
It also proposes an opportunity to flee...
deny that we are at fault
deny that we are not fulfilling our call & purpose
shutting out any voice of truth to hold tight to the voice of false hope
to leave the flock and become a loose cannon or a lone ranger
OR to try to find another flock who you will keep portions of yourself hidden or who you think may not speak truth into those areas of your life
church where they will justify lust or homosexuality
when God’s Word calls it a sin that we will be held accountable for and that we should seek repentance of by the help of HS & our brothers & sisters in Christ
church where gossip is accepted
so that we can speak lies & slander about others and feel good about it...
one day the good will wear off and we will stand before God and give an account for these things
a church where we can keep our faith quiet like a secret pact
but one day Jesus will ask why were not obedient in sharing Salvation with your neighbors, co-workers, family, friends...
so we can learn and grow together
we can run & hide
we can find others who will not speak truth in certain areas of our lives
HOW ARE YOU DOING?
Who do you have in your life that will help keep you personally accountable in the way that you live?
Who are you returning the favor to…?
In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”
An open rebuke
is better than hidden love!
Wounds from a sincere friend
are better than many kisses from an enemy.
