Introduction
This past Wednesday evening we began talking about, discussing the topic of the second coming of Jesus.
And there is one we are certain about, Jesus is coming again.
Now you might ask me this morning, How can I be certain of these things…
The answer is found in the truth that Jesus taught it, the angels conformed it, the disciples preached about it and yes, we have seen it testified to in the the Holy Scriptures.
My friends this is a core doctrine of our faith.
Jesus came, was born into flesh.
He was both fully God and Fully Man.
He bleed and died for the sins of humanity and rose from the dead on the third day.
He ascended into heaven and will return in like manner one day.
This truth is at the heart of the gospel!
We as the church, as the body of believers wait for His return.
And I tell you, Jesus is coming again.
So this morning I will take you back to the gospel of Matthew, we were there this past Wednesday night,
But we will look at a different passage, I couldn’t give it all away Wednesday, now could I??
So our passage today will be verses 36-51, but I am going to begin by sharing a passage of this to begin with today along with some other key truths...
So find Matthew 24:36-44
matthew 24:
So where will I have you focus today, where will I begin..
So where will I have you focus today, where will I begin..
Well honestly, the last verse we looked at it as a singular truth for us to consider.
The Bible is full of examples for us to know for certain that Jesus is coming again my friends.
2. Jesus is Coming Again...
This one truth is something the church has held close to their heart since the day Jesus ascended into heaven.
Jesus had spoke of his departure and return to the disciples, at times He taught in parables and other, Jesus plainly told them what would happen.
Yet they didn’t always understand what He was speaking and teaching about.
There are examples in the gospel accounts, gives us an account of one such teaching, but I thought I would share one with you from
Let me share this one with you...
Now why is this one important....?

I believe so because Jesus plainly teaches the truth that it is necessary for the Master to leave, in this event we are told that He will take a journey.
And before leaving the Master sets the servants to work, gives them instruction and plans before he departs.
His words to them, I will be back.
Keep living, serving, working faithfully until I return to you.
There is no reference to how long He would be gone or exactly the complete nature of His leaving.
What we do understand is the truth that He trusts those servant, He believes in them and has no doubt things will be cared for at home until His return.
The door keeper, the Master reminds to stay away, always be ready for my return.
and look at the nature of what Jesus says...
The door keeper the Master reminds to stay away, always be ready for my return.
and look at the nature of what Jesus says...
The time is uncertain… that is true, but Jesus tells them plainly the Master will come back.
The job is for them to be ready.
Be ready, be faithful
Be ready for you do not know the day or the hour, you just know Jesus will return.
And then if you consider the words of Jesus the night before his crucifixion, while they met in the Upper room.
Jesus told the disciples these words...
Now that is one of my favorite passages, it is just hours before the crucifixion and Jesus reminds them...
I am going, but I am coming again.....
He cannot tell it to them any plainer… I will come again and take you to myself...
But let me share just one more thought about this idea that Jesus is coming again…
This one is the day he left, Acts chapter 1
Jesus is giving the disciples come instruction, some thoughts for life and ministry before He ascends into heaven, returning to His rightful place beside the Father.
And as Jesus is leaving them, the disciples are just in awe of everything they are witnessings, and suddenly God puts two messengers before the disciples to remind them of what Jesus has already told them… I will return...
Listen to this favorite passage of mine, Acts 1:10-11

Man, O man can you say that with them..
This same jesus who was taken away from you into heaven, will come in the same manner....
Wow...
He is coming again....
No ifs and or buts about it..... Jesus will return in like manner.
Do you believe it?
But in the midst of knowing for certain that Jesus is coming again, there is on truth concerning it that we cannot get away from my friends...
2. No One Knows the Day or the Hour.....
If there is one fact people would love to know today it is one of two truths I believe.
They would like to know how long they will live.
And they would like to know when Jesus is coming again, when His kingdom will be established.
These are questions that have always been asked....
Yet, both of these dates are hidden from man.
If you look at the gospel accounts we find several times when people asked when Jesus would establish His kingdom.
One example is right at the beginning of this chapter, we find the disciples come to Jesus asking the question of when all this would take place...
Now listen to Jesus reply in verse 3
The disciples came asking.... Jesus has come and he has been teaching in the city and around the Temple and religious leaders were there, they were opposing Jesus and at the end of chapter 23 we find some of the most heart breaking words the Savior every says...
Jesus is heart broken.... just as they drove away the prophets of God, so they have driven Him away… Soon the will crucify Him....
And Jesus will die for the sins of the world.
How sad...
And it was here that the disciples come asking....
People want to know...
People want to know...
Many have tried to predict the coming of the Lord’s return.
Many have set a date and sadly have led many people astray.
And they are successful because people, we are easily led astray.
But Jesus reminds His disciples to be careful and do not allow anyone to deceive them...
look at verse 4
And then verse 5
There is always a person, a group that says they know.... but Jesus says No… No one knows the day or the time…
Here are just a few .......
And we see that Jesus made it clear that no one would know the day or the hour of his coming...
Listen to Jesus in verse 36 in this 24th chapter.
A. Jehovah Witnesses have claimed to know… they have set dates several times..... explain more.
B. Harold Camping, who was the founder of Family Radio in said 1994 would be a general time when Christ could return, and later set a day for Oct 21 2015.
He led many astray.
C. Jack Van Impe, suggested that 2012 could be the time of the Lord’s return..
D. Mark Blitz said the second coming of the Christ would correspond to the lunar eclipse of 2015 where there was so much hype concerning the coming of what ws coined the “Blood moon”.
And honestly, the list is many and I have just scratched the surface of this group.
The truth remains is this.. many have said they knew, and many have led people astray…
And Jesus says Be careful that no one leads you astray......
Listen to Jesus in verse 36 in this 24th chapter.
Jesus makes it clear in response to what has been asked of Him… No one knows the day or the hour of his return...
Verse three tells us the disciples ask him about this question
He doesn’t know.
the angels do not know… no one does except the Father.
God the Father is the only one who knows the exact time when He will send the Son back into the world to gather His church.
